POLICE LOG: Woman Practices Knife Throwing on Boyfriend; Car Thief Caught By K9 in Chase

The following items were reported by the El Cerrito Police Department between Friday, May 31 and Sunday, June 2

Friday, May 31

Robbery – Safeway, 11450 San Pablo Ave.
9:58 AM: Store security detained a 44-year-old man from Richmond for stealing $200 worth of alcohol. The man told loss prevention employees that he had a gun and fled the store prior to police arriving on scene. El Cerrito police officers spotted the man on San Pablo Ave. at Cutting Blvd. The man tried to run but officers arrested him after a short foot pursuit. Officers booked the man at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported him to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Attempted Residential Burglary – 5700 block of Fern St.
10:25 AM: Two suspects attempted to kick open the front door, but were scared off by the homeowner. A neighbor spotted the two suspects running from the victim’s house, to a parked gold colored Nissan Altima, which fled westbound onto MacDonald Ave. The witness described the suspects as two black male juveniles, high school aged, wearing dark colored hooded sweatshirts and blue jeans.

Auto Burglary – Barnes and Noble 6060 El Cerrito Plaza
Between 3:30-4:25 PM: A suspect broke the passenger window on the victim’s car. The suspects stole the victim’s backpack, which contained more than $300 worth of property.

Assault with a Deadly Weapon – 1400 block of Richmond St.
Officers arrested a 57-year-old El Cerrito woman after she threw a knife at her boyfriend, causing a puncture wound. Earlier in the day, the couple purchased knives and set up a target so the woman could practice her knife throwing skills. The knife throwing practice ended when the woman decided to throw the knife at her boyfriend’s chest. Officers booked the woman at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported her to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Ave. / Plumas Ave.
Officers conducted a bicycle enforcement stop and arrested a 55-year-old Albany man for outstanding warrants. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Driving under the Influence – Fairmount Ave. / Lexington Ave.
Officers were dispatched to a solo vehicle collision in front of 6500 Fairmount Ave. Upon arrival, officers located and arrested the driver, a 36 year-old El Cerrito man, for driving under the influence of alcohol and colliding into a tree. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released to a sober family member.

Saturday, June 1

Stolen Vehicle – 5900 block of Fern St.
Sometime between May 31 at 10:30 p.m. and June 1 at 9:30 a.m., a thief stole the victim’s Honda Civic while it was parked on the street.

Residential Burglary – 1200 block of Cabrillo St.
Between 1:45 and 4:15 PM: An unknown suspect entered the victim’s residence through an open kitchen window. The suspect stole a laptop and several pieces of jewelry.

Stolen Vehicle – 6600 block of Central Ave.
An unknown suspect stole the victim’s 1986 Honda CRX sometime between 5/29/13 and 6/1/13.

Driving under the Influence – Carlson Blvd. / San Diego St.
Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver, a 33 year-old Oakland man, for driving under the influence of alcohol. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released a sober family member.

Possession of a Controlled Substance – San Pablo Ave. / Moeser Ln.
Officers conducted a pedestrian enforcement stop and subsequently arrested a 35-year-old Richmond man for possession of a controlled substance. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released pending lab results.

Sunday, June 2

Warrant Arrest / Out of Compliance Sex Offender
– Lucky’s, 1000 El Cerrito Plaza

At approximately 9:48 AM: Officers contacted a 36-year-old man from Richmond in front of Lucky’s. Officers arrested the man after they discovered that he had a warrant out of Contra Costa County. The officers booked the man at the El Cerrito Police Department and learned that he had also failed to register as a sex offender for the last two years. Officers took the man to county jail.

Warrant Arrest – 1100 block of Lawrence Ct.
2:29 PM: Officers arrested a 40-year-old man at his residence because he had a warrant for his arrest out of Contra Costa County. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Possession of a Controlled Substance – Blake St. / Everett St.
Officers conducted a pedestrian enforcement stop and arrested a 46-year-old San Rafael man for possession of a controlled substance. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released pending lab results.

Warrant arrest – 5300 block of Barrett Ave.
Officers conducted a pedestrian enforcement stop and arrested a 54-year-old El Cerrito man for an outstanding warrant. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released with a court date.

Recovered Stolen Vehicle, Resisting Arrest, and Warrant Arrest – S. 39th St. / Wall Ave.
Officers located an occupied and stolen Ford Explorer at Key Blvd. and Nevin Ave. The vehicle was stolen from Alameda County, earlier in the day. Officers followed the vehicle and attempted to stop it. The vehicle stopped and the driver, Jessie Sims (48) from Richmond, ran on foot. Sims tried to jump over a fence but Police Canine Koda apprehended him and pulled him down. Officers arrested Sims and took him to county jail. Officers learned that Sims also had a warrant for his arrest.
