POLICE LOG: Shots Fired; DUI Stop Reveals Concealed Gun; Lot Of Meat Stolen

Summary of activity from July 19-22 as reported by the El Cerrito Police Department.


July 19, 2013

Vandalism – 10100 block of San Pablo Ave.
Between July 18 at 1800 hours and July 19 at 0640 hours, an unknown suspect smashed a window on the south side of a business.

Trespassing and El Cerrito Muni Code Violation – 6500 block of Barrett Ave.
At 1250 hours, officers responded to a report of subjects entering a “Red Tagged” residence where squatters were known to reside. Officers located a 44-year-old male from Vallejo and a 36-year-old female from San Francisco inside the residence. The subjects were cited for their violations and released.

Residential Burglary – 600 block of Albemarle St.
Between 1030-1545 hours, a suspect entered a residence via an unlocked door and stole a wallet and laptop. At the time of the burglary a neighbor saw a white Chevy sedan (possibly a Malibu) parked in front of the target residence, which was occupied by a either a Hispanic or white female with brown hair in her 30’s. The neighbor also saw a white male adult in his 30’s, exit the victim residence carrying a clipboard and get into the vehicle.

Residential Burglary – 500 block of Clayton Ave.
Between 1030-1200 hours, an unknown suspect entered the residence via an unlocked bedroom window and stole a laptop.

Citizen Assist – 1000 E.C. Plaza.
Officers located a 26-year-old mentally handicapped man who was having difficulty finding his way back to his residence in Berkeley. Officers provided the man a ride back to his residence.

July 20, 2013

Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 400 block of Clayton Ave.
At approximately 1006 hours, an officer located an unoccupied stolen vehicle. The vehicle was reported stolen to the Richmond Police Department in March 2013. The vehicle was towed and the registered owner was contacted.

Warrant Arrest – 6000 block of Jordan Ave.
Officers served an arrest warrant for a subject wanted for failing to appear in court on a previous drunk driving arrest. She was issued a citation with a new court appearance date and released.

Assault with a Deadly Weapon – San Pablo Ave & Knott Ave.
At 1356 hours, Officers responded to a report of shots fired in the area of 6530 Cutting Blvd. After talking with witnesses and locating the crime scene, officers determined that the suspect vehicle pulled up next to the victim vehicle on San Pablo Ave. at Knott Ave. The suspects fired five shots into the victim vehicle. Both vehicles left the scene of the crime southbound.

The victim vehicle fled south in the northbound lanes of San Pablo Ave from Knott Ave and flagged down an AMR ambulance south of Cutting Blvd. The victims reported that one of the passengers in the car was shot. Before the ambulance crew could assist the victim, the car left the area. The ambulance crew attributed this to the arrival of a deputy sheriff in the area.

Possession of a Controlled Substance, Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Ave. / Moeser Ln.
Officers conducted a pedestrian enforcement stop on a 55-year-old Richmond woman and a 51-year-old Richmond woman. The older woman was found in possession of methamphetamine. The younger was found to have an warrant issued for her arrest. One woman was booked, cited and released while officers took the other woman to county jail on her warrant.

Driving under the Influence, Hit and run, Possession of a Loaded and Concealed firearm – Lexington Ave. / Eureka Ave.
Officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Kearney Street for a hit and run that just occurred. Officers located the vehicle on Lexington Ave. at Eureka Ave. The driver, a 48-year-old El Cerrito man attempted to hide from Officers when they approached. The man was intoxicated and was placed under arrest for DUI. During a search of the man’s vehicle, officers located a loaded, concealed handgun. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Petty Theft – Denny’s, 11344 San Pablo Ave.
Officers were dispatched to a “dine and dash” at Denny’s. The reporting party followed the suspects to the area of Cutting Blvd. and San Pablo Ave. An officer located the suspects, an 18-year-old woman and a 16-year-old girl both from Richmond. The females were booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released.

July 21, 2013

Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Ave & Schmidt Ln.
A pedestrian stop, at 0942 hours, resulted in the arrest of an Oakland man wanted on an Alameda County warrant for a probation violation. He was booked and transported to the county jail in Martinez.

Drug Paraphernalia Arrest – San Pablo Ave & Potrero Ave.
A pedestrian stop, at 1405 hours, resulted in the arrest of a male from Richmond who was in possession of a crack pipe. He was booked and released on a citation.

Petty Theft, Possession of Stolen Property – 11450 San Pablo Ave.
Officers were dispatched to Safeway for a subject that just stole alcohol from the store. Employees confronted the suspect, a 53-year-old homeless man, in the parking lot after he walked out with a shopping cart filled with alcohol and food. When the employees returned inside the business to call the police, the suspect continued on foot to the BART station. Officers contacted him there and located another shopping cart with more alcohol. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released.

Warrant Arrest – Central Ave. / Yosemite Ave.
Officers conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver, a 48-year-old Richmond man and his brother, a 47-year-old Richmond man for outstanding warrants. Both men were booked at the El Cerrito Police Department. Officers released the older brother with a ticket and took the younger brother to county jail.

July 22, 2013

Stolen Vehicle – 11896 San Pablo Ave Parking Lot.
A Ford Econoline E-250 Van was stolen from the rear lot at the business at 11896 San Pablo Ave. The theft occurred between 07/20/13 at 2000 hours and 07/22/13 at 0900 hours.

Shoplifting – Safeway, 11450 San Pablo Ave.
Officer Rhodus accepted the citizen’s arrest of an Oakland man by Safeway Loss Prevention after he exited the store with $384.00 worth of stolen meat. He was booked and cited.

Suspicious Circumstance – 300 block Ramona Ave.
The mother of an 11-year boy called to report that, at 1550 hours, an Asian male driving a black Ford Fusion took a photograph of her son while the boy was playing in front of the residence.

Traffic Control – 1800 block of Elm St.
Officers assisted the El Cerrito Fire Department with traffic control while they battled a structure fire from 1915 to 2145 hours.

Warrant Arrest – Burlingame Ave. / Santa Clara Ave.
Officers conducted a pedestrian enforcement stop and arrested a 48-year-old Corte Madera man for an outstanding warrant. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
