POLICE LOG: Residential burglaries, FLA missing person found in El Cerrito

Activity between June 14-16 as reported by the El Cerrito Police Department.


Friday, June 14

Indecent Exposure - 1000 El Cerrito Plaza 

At 6:35 p.m., officers responded to several calls of a man walking around the listed location wearing no clothes below his waist. Officers located a 44-year-old white male behind Lucky and arrested the man at the request of plaza security. During booking, officers discovered that man had been arrested for indecent exposure on four other occasions. 

Missing Juvenile
 
Officers responded to an El Cerrito home at 8:54 p.m. after a grandmother called to report her 8-year-old granddaughter missing. After a half hour search, residents located the girl and called the police. Officers arrived and took the girl home. 

Warrant arrest – 9900 block of San Pablo Ave.

At 9:21 p.m., officers conducted a pedestrian stop and arrested a 52-year-old male for an outstanding warrant. 

Residential Burglary – 7800 block of Eureka Ave.

Officers report an unknown suspect(s) entered the victim’s residence through an unlocked window and stole jewelry and electronics. 

Warrant Arrest, Felon in Possession of Pepper Spray, Possession of Burglary Tools – Carquinez Ave/Alvarado

Officers conducted a pedestrian stop at 4:18 a.m. and arrested a 54-year-old man after they discovered that he had an outstanding warrant. During a search incident to arrest, officers discovered the man was in possession of several flashlights, screwdrivers and a canister of pepper spray. A criminal history check revealed the male had several felony convictions. 


Saturday, June 15

Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 1900 block of Tulare Ave.

A neighbor reported a suspicious vehicle parked in front of their home. The Honda Civic was reported stolen in El Cerrito on June 5. Officers contacted the owner and arranged for the return of her vehicle.  

Residential Burglary – 6000 block of Jordan Ave.

An unknown suspect used a pry tool to force open the front door of the residence and lightly ransacked the home. The residents were not home at the time of the burglary and small items, which could be easily concealed, were stolen. 

Residential Burglary – 600 block of Lexington Ave.

An unknown suspect removed a padlock to a garage in the early morning hours and stole miscellaneous hand tools. 

Residential Burglary – 2600 block of Edwards Ave. 

An unknown suspect(s) attempted to pry open a window and a door to the attached garage adjacent to the residence. The suspect(s) were not successful in gaining entry, but did remove a lock box containing a key to the residence from the front door. 

Residential Burglary – 1100 block of Liberty St. 

Officers responded to an alarm at a residence. They arrived on scene and discovered the front door was unlocked. Officers searched the residence and discovered someone burglarized it. Officers located the point of entry at a rear sliding glass door. Officers contacted the victim and learned that the suspect(s) stole electronics and jewelry before leaving through the front door. 

Missing Person – Safeway, 11450 San Pablo Ave. 

Officers ran a license plate to an Acura with a Texas license plate and discovered the vehicle was associated with a missing person. The missing person is a 19-year-old male currently active in the Navy and stationed in Pensacola, Fla. After the man was reported AWOL, a missing persons report was filed in Florida. The man told officers that he has been feeling depressed and left Florida for Texas last week. While in Texas, the man attempted to commit suicide. The man changed his mind and then drove to California. The man stated he still felt suicidal and had not slept or eaten in days. Officers summoned an ambulance and instructed the team to take the man to the Contra Costa Regional Medical Center to receive treatment. 

Residence Burglary – 8100 block of Terrace Drive

An unknown suspect(s) entered a residence by prying open a hallway window. The suspect(s) ransacked the interior and took electronics and jewelry. 

Sunday, June 16

Petty Theft – 11450 San Pablo Ave. (Safeway) 

Officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of a 54-year-old male after he entered Safeway and concealed groceries. The male left the store without paying and was detained by security; he was later booked, issued a citation and released. 

Driving under the Influence – 11299 San Pablo Ave.

At 6:18 p.m., officers conducted a traffic stop and arrested the driver, a 43-year-old man for DUI. The male was booked then transported to the county jail in Martinez.
