POLICE LOG: Public Intoxication, Warrants Keep ECPD Busy

Activity between June 21-24 as reported by the El Cerrito Police Department.

Friday, June 21

Domestic Battery 

An officer arrested a 30-year-old man from El Cerrito for battering his girlfriend during a dispute in the middle of the night. The officer booked the man at the El Cerrito Police Department and then transported him to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

Theft and Brandishing a Weapon – 10650 San Pablo Ave. (CVS Pharmacy)

Officers responded to CVS pharmacy after employees called to report that the manager detained a woman after she stole items from the store. Prior to the officer’s arrival, the woman ran through the rear emergency exit doors and brandished a large stick at the employees. The employees held the woman on the ground until police arrived. An officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of the 32-year-old woman from Richmond, booked her at the ECPD jail and then released her with a citation. 

Vehicle Collision with Injury – 10794 San Pablo Ave. (Marshalls)

Officers responded to a report of a single vehicle collision in the parking lot of Marshalls clothing store. The vehicle’s air bag deployed from the impact and the driver was transported to the hospital for treatment. 

Suicidal Subject

Dispatch received a call from a mother concerned about her adult son, who she feared was planning to commit suicide. Officers responded to the location and began attempting to make contact with the man. Eventually, the man answered a call into the house, exited and spoke with officers, who then decided to send him for a mental health evaluation. 

Public Intoxication – 11565 San Pablo Ave. (Walgreens)

An officer responded to the parking lot of Walgreens after employees phoned police to report an aggressive panhandler. An officer contacted the intoxicated 48-year-old transient male in the parking lot after he had followed a patron to their vehicle. The officer arrested the man for public intoxication, booked him at ECPD and then transported him to the Martinez Detention Facility. 


Saturday, June 22

Stolen Vehicle – Cutting Boulevard and Kenilworth Avenue 

An officer responded to the area to take a report of a 2007 Ford Econoline van that was stolen overnight, sometime between 10 p.m. and 7:45 a.m. 

Public Intoxication – 11575 San Pablo Ave. (Church’s Chicken parking lot)

At 4:59 p.m., officers responded to the parking lot when a citizen called to report a male hitting a female. The female left prior to police arrival; however, officers contacted the 48-year-old transient male and arrested him for public intoxication. The male was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. Officers arrested the man for the same crime, two days in a row, and took him to the same place, county jail. 

Battery – 6009 Potrero Ave. (Super 8 Motel)

At 5:14 p.m., the victim called police saying that her male friend broke her leg while they were in a hotel room. The male friend fled the hotel in the victim’s car, prior to police arrival. The victim was transported to Kaiser Richmond for treatment. 


Sunday, June 23

Warrant Arrest – Potrero Avenue/I-80 

At about 11:23 p.m., an officer contacted a 48-year-old male from Richmond, during a traffic stop, and arrested him for an outstanding warrant out of Contra Costa County. The male was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

Warrant Arrest – Potrero Ave/S. 55th Street 

At about 11:36 p.m., an officer contacted a 20-year-old male from Vallejo, during a traffic stop and arrested him for an outstanding warrant out of Solano County. The male was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to Martinez Detention Facility. During a search of the vehicle, the officer located several pieces of jewelry and a laptop computer. The officer later discovered that the laptop was stolen property. 

Driving under the Influence – Central and San Mateo avenues 

At about 2 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic stop and arrested a 26-year-old man from San Pablo for DUI. The male was booked at the ECPD and issued a citation then released to a sober family member. 


Monday, June 24

Petty Theft – 670 El Cerrito Plaza (CVS Pharmacy)

At about 10:13 a.m., an officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of a 40-year-old male from Berkeley. Store security detained him after they caught him stealing from the store. The officer booked the man at the ECPD and released him with a citation. 

Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Avenue at Waldo Avenue

At 3 p.m., an officer contacted a 40-year-old male from Oakland and arrested him on an outstanding warrant out of San Francisco. The male was booked at the ECPD and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
