POLICE LOG: Car burglaries, Safeway incidents increase last week

Activity between June 17-20 as reported by the El Cerrito Police Department.

Monday, June 17

Automobile Burglary – 3160 Carlson Blvd. (76 Gas station) 

Unknown suspect broke the front passenger window to a Toyota Prius parked in station’s parking lot and stole a lunch box. The victim became aware of the break in when he hear his car alarm activate at 10:33 a.m. 

Felon in Possession of Weapon and Drugs for Sale – S. 55th and School Street 

At 1:32 p.m., officers arrested a Richmond man after they contacted him and discovered that he was in possession of codeine, marijuana and pepper spray. An officer took the man to county jail.

Petty Theft – 7007 Moeser Lane (El Cerrito Community Center) 

Between 2:25 and 2:45 p.m., an unknown suspect stole an iPhone, cash and a driver’s license from a backpack stored in an unlocked locker at the community center. 

Petty Theft – 1700 block of Julian Court

An unknown suspect stole a box of vegetables that had been delivered to the front porch of 1736 Julian Court. The theft occurred between 12:31 and 8:15 a.m.

Petty Theft from Vehicle (late report) – 5800 block of Alva Place 

At about 3 p.m. June 13, an unknown suspect entered an unlocked Ford minivan and stole a Garmin GPS system from the vehicle.

Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 500 block of Oak St.

A parking enforcement officer located a Honda Accord stolen from Berkeley. The vehicle was recovered and returned to its owner. (The El Cerrito Parking Enforcement Officers typically use an electronic system for issuing tickets. The system checks against the national stolen vehicle database whenever an officer issues a parking ticket. In this case, the officer was alerted to the stolen vehicle shortly after issuing the ticket.) 


Tuesday, June 18

Domestic Violence / Vandalism / False Identification – 11511 San Pablo Ave. (T-Mobile) 

Officers arrested a female after she cut her former boyfriend with a box cutter and poured motor oil over the interior of his car. When arrested, the female gave the name of another person as her identification. Officers checked her fingerprints and discovered that she lied about her identity. Officers booked the woman and took her to county jail. 

Warrant Arrest – Police department 

A woman turned herself in on an El Cerrito Police Department warrant from 2010. Officers wanted her for her connection to a burglary, forgery and fraudulent checks investigation. Officers booked her and transported her to county jail. 

Shoplifting Arrest / False Identification – 11450 San Pablo Ave. (Safeway) 

At 3:50 p.m., Safeway’s Loss Prevention placed a female from Pinole under citizen’s arrest. When officers arrived, the woman gave the name of another person. Officers determined, by way of fingerprinting, that the woman lied about her identity. Officers booked her, under her real name, and took her to county jail. 

Driving under the Influence – South 45th Street at Macdonald Avenue 

Officers arrested a 22-year-old San Pablo man for driving under the influence of alcohol. The man was booked at the ECPD and then released to a sober person. 

Drunk in Public - 1751 Eastshore Blvd.

Officers arrested a 51-year-old woman and a 48-year-old man from Richmond for being drunk in public during a call of a disturbance. The subjects were booked at the ECPD and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

Stolen Vehicle - 1500 block of South 56th Street 

A 2007 Toyota Camry was stolen on between 3:20 and 4:30 p.m., after the victim left the keys unattended near the vehicle. 


Wednesday, June 19

Special Assignment – Richmond 

Several officers from the ECPD teamed up with the Richmond Police to conduct alcohol compliance checks at a number of businesses. 

Thursday, June 20

Shoplift Arrest – 11450 San Pablo Ave. (Safeway) 

At 7:57 a.m., Safeway’s Loss Prevention placed a female from San Pablo under citizen’s arrest for shoplifting. Officers arrived, took custody of the woman and booked her at the police department. She was released with a citation. 

Automobile Burglary – Kearney Street & Wall Avenue 

An unknown suspect entered a Mini Cooper by breaking a window and stole a Garmin GPS system from the vehicle between 8 p.m. June 19 and 7 a.m. June 20.

Automobile Theft – 2000 block of Tapscott Ave. 

An unknown suspect stole a Toyota Camry between 8:30 p.m. June 19 and 10 a.m. June 20.

Shoplifting Arrest – 11450 San Pablo Ave.  (Safeway)  

At 1 p.m., Safeway Loss Prevention arrested a woman and a man from Richmond for shoplifting. Officers booked the pair and released them with citations.

At 4:42 p.m., Safeway Loss Prevention arrested a woman from Richmond for shoplifting. Officers booked the woman and released her with a citation. 

Burglary – 11700 block of San Pablo Avenue 

An unknown suspect broke out the front passenger window of a Volkswagen and stole miscellaneous property between midnight and 9 a.m.
