Oakland police officers at a gas station in Oakland helped deliver a baby boy Friday evening, an Oakland police spokeswoman said.

The officers were at a gas station at 9750 Golf Links Road around 6:40 p.m. when they were flagged down by a male who said his wife was in labor, Oakland police spokeswoman Johnna Watson said.

The officers went to a car where they found a female who was going through labor. The officers called for medical help, but before Oakland fire and paramedic crews arrived the officers helped deliver a 7 pound and 9 ounce baby boy, Watson said.

The mother and baby were taken to a hospital, and when the officers called later in their shift to check on the new family, everyone was reportedly healthy, Watson said.
