Police Calls: Unsolved Robbery, Car Chase, Shattered Baskin Robbins Windows

Monday, January 13th

Public intoxication, Resisting arrest – Blake St. / BART Path
At 8:15p.m., officers were dispatched for a subject trying door handles of vehicles in the 1700 block of Wesley Ave. The suspect was described as a black male adult, wearing a silver and black jacket and light blue jeans. An officer located a man matching this description on the BART Path at Blake St. The officer ordered the man to stop and instead he became verbally assaultive and failed to follow the directions given by the officers. The man, a 33-year-old El Cerrito resident, was heavily intoxicated and was arrested. He was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Contra Costa Detention Facility in Martinez.

Vehicle theft – 11700 block of San Pablo Ave.
At 9:34p.m., an unknown suspect stole the victim’s 1994 Honda Civic while the victim was inside a business.

Strong arm robbery – Potrero Ave. / S. 56th St.
At 10:20p.m., an officer was flagged down by a victim stating she had been robbed by three individuals somewhere in the area. The victim stated that she was sprayed with pepper spray and tased. An area check for the suspects was unsuccessful.

Warrant arrest – Carlson Blvd. / Panama Ave.
At 1:56a.m., an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the passenger, an 18-year-old El Cerrito man for an outstanding warrant. The man was booked at the El Cerrito police department and released with a notice to appear.

Possession of a Controlled Substance - 11565 San Pablo Ave., Walgreens
At 1:02p.m., officers conducted a welfare check on a suspicious person and discovered he was in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. Officers arrested the 40 year-old homeless man, booked him at the El Cerrito Police Department and then released him pending further drug testing by the Contra Costa County Crime Lab.

Warrant Arrest - 10900 San Pablo Ave.
At 12:20p.m., a 20 year-old El Cerrito woman turned herself in at the El Cerrito Police Department for an outstanding theft warrant. The female was booked and then posted bail.

Tuesday, January 14th

Battery – 600 block of Liberty St.
At approximately 6:47p.m., a 40-year-old El Cerrito woman and her daughter, a 21-year-old El Cerrito woman, were involved in a physical fight causing minor injuries. Both parties declined prosecution of the other. The case will be forwarded to the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office for review.

Vehicle Theft - South 56th St. at Cypress Ave.
At 8:06a.m., a parking enforcement unit located an unoccupied Ford Expedition which was reported stolen to the Vallejo Police Department. The vehicle was processed for evidence and towed from the scene.

Petty Theft - 11450 San Pablo Ave., Safeway
At 1537 hours, officers were dispatched to Safeway to assist store security with a person they were detaining for shoplifting. Upon arrival on scene, officers arrested a 26 year-old woman from Concord for petty theft. The woman was booked at the ECPD and then released with a citation.

Wednesday, January 15th

Outside Assistance – Cutting Blvd. / I-80.
While on a pedestrian enforcement stop at approximately 1:20a.m., officers saw a white vehicle being pursued by the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Department. El Cerrito Police Department officers assisted in the pursuit which terminated in the area of Cutting Blvd. and S. 30th St. in Richmond. The occupants fled the suspect vehicle and were apprehended.

Thursday, January 16th

Vandalism – 10500 block of San Pablo Ave.
At 9:08p.m., the Richmond Police Department was dispatched to a man shattering windows at the Budget Inn. At 9:25p.m., officers from the Richmond Police Department found 27-year-old San Pablo man, in the parking lot of Baskin Robbins. The man shattered two of the store front windows and appeared to be suffering from a combination of mental illness and drug abuse. The man was taken into custody by Richmond Police Department and transported to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation.
