Police Calls: Officers Assaulted, Credit Card Skimmer

Officers assaulted in two incidents, a credit card skimmer at Carrows restaurant and more are listed in this weekend's police log.

Friday January 10, 2014


Theft of Vehicle License Plate - Marshall’s Parking Lot 10794 San Pablo Avenue
At 1:30pm, an officer responded for a report of a theft of a license plate from a vehicle.  The owner reported that sometime between 1200 and 1300 hours an unknown suspect stole the front license plate to a Dodge Charger.  

Report of a Suicidal Man with a Firearm - 1300 block of Richmond Street
At 2:50pm, officers responded to a report of suicidal man with a firearm at his home.  The incident temporarily closed off nearby streets for the safety of the public. (Editor's Note: Read our coverage of this incident here)

Petty Theft - Warrant Arrest – 11450 San Pablo Ave.  
At 6:35pm, an officer responded to the report of a shoplifter in custody at Safeway.  A woman was seen stealing items by undercover loss prevention agents and placed under citizen’s arrest.  A 27 year old female resident of Richmond was also found to have two outstanding warrants during the booking process.  The woman was booked into the County Jail in Martinez.      

Vandalism – Safeway 11450 San Pablo Avenue:
At 9:27pm, an officer responded to the report of a vandalism having just occurred.  Store employees reported that a 30 year old white male, approximately 5’10” tall, weighing 130 pounds and wearing a white hooded sweatshirt damaged the sushi display. The man left the store and was not located.

January 11th  

Warrant Arrest - San Pablo Avenue and Moeser Lane
At 12:57pm,, an officer spoke with a suspicious person near a vehicle and learned the 34 year old woman from San Pablo, had an outstanding warrant for her arrest.  The officer booked the woman at the El Cerrito Police Department, and released her with a citation.  

Warrant Arrest - Potrero Avenue and Eastshore Blvd
At 10:10am, an officer spoke with a suspicious person and conducted a records check.  A 52 year old man from Richmond was arrested for an outstanding warrant.  The officer booked the man at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported him to the County Jail in Martinez.  

Automobile vs. Pedestrian Collision - San Pablo Avenue and Wall Avenue
At 11:58am, officers responded to a report of an injury collision.  Upon arrival, officers found a woman who was injured.  The woman was walking her bicycle within the marked crosswalk, when the bicycle’s rear tire was struck by a vehicle. The impact of the vehicle striking the rear tire of the bicycle knocked the woman to the ground and she sustained an injury to her ankle.  The driver provided a statement to officers and the woman was transported to the hospital for examination. 

Resisting Arrest - San Pablo Avenue and Cutting Blvd
At 2:58pm, an officer spoke with a female who was jaywalking across San Pablo Avenue to get to the Del Norte BART station.  The officer issued the woman, a 32 year old Oakland resident, a citation for jaywalking. The woman refused to sign the citation and pushed the officer to the side and began to walk away.  The woman struggled with the officer, striking the officer on the arms and chest. Handcuffs were placed on the woman and she was transported to the County Jail in Martinez.

Warrant Arrest - San Pablo Avenue – Moeser Lane / San Pablo Avenue
At 9:51pm, an officer made a traffic enforcement stop.  During the officer’s traffic stop, he determined one of the occupants, a 37 year old Berkeley resident, was found to have a warrant for possession of a controlled substance.  The man was transported to the County Jail in Martinez.      

January 12th

Driving under the influence of an Alcoholic Beverage – San Pablo Avenue and Waldo Avenue
At 1:03am, an officer observed a vehicle commit a vehicle code violation on San Pablo Avenue near Waldo Avenue.  The officer made a traffic stop and determined the driver, a 27 year old Berkeley man, was driving while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage.  The subject was booked and released to a sober friend.  

Driving under the influence of an Alcoholic Beverage – San Pablo Avenue / Cutting Blvd
At 2:20am, an officer observed a vehicle being driven on a flat tire on San Pablo Avenue near Cutting Blvd.  The officer made a traffic stop and determined the driver, a 27 year old Richmond resident, was driving while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage.  The subject was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released to a sober friend.  

Loitering - Warrant Arrest – Denny’s 11344 San Pablo Avenue:
At 2:30am, officers were called to Denny’s on the report of a subject loitering in the business.  A 34 year old male and Concord resident, was found to have a warrant.  He was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released with a citation.    

Suspicious Activity - Warrant Arrest - San Pablo Avenue / Potrero Avenue  
At 3:45am, an officer saw a wanted 57 year old homeless male.  The homeless man was arrested for the outstanding warrant and released with a citation.      

Auto Burglary – 300 block of Carmel Ave:
At 9:40am, an officer was called to the 300 block of Carmel Avenue on the report a vehicle had been burglarized.  A window was smashed and a GPS was stolen.  The auto burglary occurred sometime during previous 12 hours.   

Battery on a Police Officer and Parole violation - At 11:57am, an officer made a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle leaving the Moeser Lane and San Pablo Avenue area.  A 23 year old man and El Sobrante resident, who was on parole, refused to exit the vehicle and began to fight with officers.  He was arrested after trying to bite and scratch the officers.  The man was taken to the County Jail in Martinez for violating his parole.  

Credit Card Skimmer – Carrows: 6120 Potrero Avenue  
At 1:22pm, officers responded to Carrow’s on the report of a waiter using a skimmer to collect customer’s credit card information.  The restaurant was suspicious of the man’s behavior and had called in an undercover loss prevention agent.  When officers arrived, the subject attempted to flee and discard the device but was unsuccessful. Petty Theft – Safeway - 11450 San Pablo Ave
At 7:39pm, an officer responded to Safeway on the report of a shoplifter in custody.  Loss Prevention Agents placed a 27 year old Richmond man, under citizen’s arrest for concealing personal hygiene items in his clothing.  The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the County Jail in Martinez.
