Pedestrian Killed on I-580 in Richmond Was Oakland Man

A man struck by a car Sunday night on westbound Interstate 580 at Harbour Way in Richmond has been identified as a 42-year-old resident of Oakland, according to the Contra Costa County Coroner's bureau.

A man who was killed when he was struck by a vehicle on Interstate Highway 580 in Richmond on Sunday night has been identified by the Contra Costa County coroner's office as 42-year-old Geoffrey Newhouse, of Oakland.

The California Highway Patrol received a report around 8:25 p.m. of a collision involving a pedestrian on westbound Highway 580 at Harbour Way.

A short time later, the CHP received another report of a pedestrian lying in the roadway.

The pedestrian, later identified as Newhouse, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The incident shut down two westbound lanes until just after 11 p.m.
