One of the two young men hit a car while crossing San Pablo Avenue at Eureka Avenue Saturday night remains in critical condition in a medically induced coma, according to El Cerrito police.
The 20-year-old victim, who was unconscious when airlifted to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek after the accident around 9 p.m., was being kept in the coma to reduce brain swelling, police Sgt. Shawn Maples said Tuesday night.
The other victim, also 20, suffered a broken leg, Maples said. He was taken by ambulance to Highland hospital in Oakland.
"The driver absolutely did not see them," Maples said. The pair apparently were in the crosswalk when hit, he said. The driver of the Honda Accord remained at the scene after the collision, police said.
The names of those involved was not released, and the police investigation into whether the driver was criminally negligent has not been completed, Maples said.
