Parolee Suspected of Attacking, Carjacking Elderly El Cerrito Woman Arrested in Oakland

A parolee suspected of attacking an 89-year-old woman in an El Cerrito parking lot on Sunday was arrested in Oakland Wednesday, according to police.
 
Terrance James Hardy, 28, was arrested in Oakland around 8 p.m. after a resident called to report seeing him on foot on 73rd Avenue, according to El Cerrito Police. The resident recognized Hardy from media coverage.

Hardy was arrested on suspicion of carjacking and elder abuse causing great bodily injury, police said.
 
The carjacking occurred shortly before 2 p.m. in the parking lot of a CVW at 10650 San Pablo Ave., according to police. When officers arrived at the parking lot, they found the elderly El Cerrito woman injured and lying on the ground, police said. Police said the woman drove her car to the pharmacy to pick up her medications.

After leaving CVS the woman walked back to her car and was confronted by a man as she was getting inside her car. The man punched the woman and pulled her out of her car. He then drove away in her car, according to police.
 
The victim was treated at the scene by paramedics and then taken to the hospital. Police said her face and torso were injured by the man and that she suffered a broken collar bone and broken ribs.

She has been hospitalized but is expected to survive her injuries, police said today. Hardy was identified as a suspect in part based on a description given to police by a witness at the scene.
 
The victim's 1992 Toyota Camry is still missing. The car is described as a white 1992 Toyota Camry with the license plate 2ZNR291 Anyone who sees the stolen vehicle is encouraged to notify law enforcement immediately.
