Kensington Fall Parade, Picnic, Touch of Halloween

Hundreds join in as community marches down Arlington Avenue Sunday to picnic at Community Center and book sale at library.

The mood around Kensington Park changed quickly Sunday as patrons quietly browsing the Friends of the Kensington Library book sale in the library parking lot looked up to see a fire truck turning into the nearby parking lot, followed by the rest of the participants in the Kensington Community Council's annual fall parade.

Participants included scout troops, the El Cerrito High Marching Band, , Kensington Path Keepers, , and the of Silicon Valley (which has a “Berkeley” campus that is actually in Kensington.)

The parade began a few blocks down the Arlington at . The fun continued on the lawn outside the Community Center, with a barbecue lunch and entertainment by the El Cerrito High Jazz Band, Threat Level Orange, and Little Marvin and the Gardeners. Children and adults in costume and pumpkins decorated as part of a contest sponsored by lent an early-Halloween vibe to the event.
