Neighbors can sign up to host block parties for a fun, relaxed scene in which to get to know each other and discuss ways to keep El Cerrito safe. El Cerrito Police officers, along with other emergency personnel and city officials are expected to join in the fun.

"It's one of the best nights of the year," according to Lt. Robert De La Campa.

Visit the El Cerrito Police website to register if you're interested in being involved in National Night Out.

The focus of National Night Out is crime prevention and safety awareness, but it's also a chance to strengthen community bonds and to get more involved in the community.

"We can talk to people about what's going on in our department and the city in a casual setting," De La Campa said.
