Man Struck, Killed by Amtrak Train Identified as Richmond Resident

Michael Shumake of Richmond, died on Thursday.

A man struck and killed by a westbound Capitol Corridor Amtrak train as it approached Richmond Station Thursday has been identified as Richmond resident Michael Shumake.

The train was traveling from Sacramento to Oakland when it struck Shumake, 37, on the tracks around 3:40 p.m., according to Amtrak spokesman Steve Kulm.

It appears that Shumake was on the tracks accidentally, according to the Contra Costa County coroner's office. None of the passengers or crew on the train was harmed in the collision, Kulm said.
