Man Shot in Stomach During Botched Robbery Attempt in a House Garage

The victim was taken to the hospital to be treated for his injuries.

A man remained in the hospital with critical injuries today after a suspect shot him during an apparent attempted robbery in Richmond on Tuesday.

A suspect shot the victim in the stomach during what appears to have been a botched robbery in the garage area of a home in the 500 block of Fifth Street, according to Richmond police Sgt. Nicole Abetkov.

The suspect fled the scene on foot and the victim was airlifted to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek. Investigators believe the victim may have been with others when the suspect approached, exchanged words with the victim and shot him, Abetkov said.

Police arriving on the scene were unable to locate the suspect. An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
