Kensington Hilltop Locked Down While Police Search for Burglar

A Kensington woman, awakened from a nap by a home security alarm, was startled to find a burglar in the house.

Knesington Hilltop School was locked down briefly this morning, Tuesday, while police searched for  a man who had broken into a nearby home on Highland Boulevard, police said.

According to a press release from the Kensington Police Department, police received an alarm call from the first block of Highland at 11:24 a.m. 

A woman was awakened from a nap by the interior residential alarm sounding, and when she went downstairs, she was confronted by a burglar, police said.

The man immediately ran down the stairs, through the back door and into the rear yard, police said.

Kensington Hilltop, an elementary school in the next block of Highland, was placed on lockdown while police searched unsuccessfully for the burglar. The school was reopened at 11:51 a.m.

The burglar forced entry to the home through the back door, police said.

The suspect is described as an African American male in his 20s, skinny, and wearing a baggy white tee shirt and mustard colored pants.
