Jury to Start Deliberations in Murder of El Cerrito Resident Asama Ayyad

Ayyad was a member of the family that operates the Zaki Kabob House restaurant in Albany.

A Superior Court jury is scheduled to begin deliberations today in the murder trial of a Richmond man accused of killing Asama Ayyad, 20 of El Cerrito in 2010, according to an article in the Contra Costa Times.

The defendant, Nickie Donald, 22, has testified that he thought he was shooting at rival gang members when he fired at a car being driven by Ayyad, killing the young El Cerrito man and wounding a companion, the Times article says.

Ayyad's family owns the Zaki Kabob House restaurant on San Pablo Avenue in Albany, where a vigil was held in December to honor Ayyad, victims of the school shooting in Newtown, CT and other victims of gun violence.
