Fun for Kids (and Camera-toting Parents) at Tri-City Safety Day
A steady stream of residents checked out emergency equipment at Saturday's Tri-City Safety Day hosted by the El Cerrito, Albany and Richmond fire departments, along with police and other emergency responders.
A steady stream of kids climbed onto and into huge fire trucks, posed on police motorcycles, cavorted with Pluggie the remote-controlled fire hydrant, and petted King the police dog as parents clicked cameras and cell phones Saturday at the Tri-City Safety Day at El Cerrito Plaza.
The El Cerrito, Albany and Richmond fire departments organize the annual event during the bright and busy mid-day, whiel the cities’ police units also bring in their emergency vehicles. Also adding to the show are other emergency responders, including the El Cerrito/Kensington Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) and Contra Costa County Hazardous Material Disposal Unit.
A sizeable portion of the parking lot in front of the Lucky store was devoted to the vehicles and booths, where public safety personnel hefted youngsters to and from the vehicles, including the El Cerrito/Kensington Safety House, and explained the buttons and gear.

Among the equipment El Cerrito displayed was the fire department ladder truck with extended ladder reaching into the sky, two police motorcycles, the DUI checkpoint trailer, the new Incident Command Vehicle, and the K9 patrol car carrying King, who was brought out for petting.
