Fire Watch In Effect As Lightning Strikes May Hit Dry East Bay On Sunday

A fire weather watch was imposed in the East Bay as weather forecasters said there is a slight chance of thunderstorms rolling through the area Sunday.

Officials at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration put the warning into effect from 8 p.m. Saturday to 8 p.m. Sunday.

Forecasters said lightning could strike parts of the East Bay and North Bay that were blistered by 100-plus temperatures on Saturday. Lightning isn't expected in urban areas or near the coast, but it could hit dry grass land inland.

In the El Cerrito area on Sunday, the high temperature is only expected to hit 63 degrees with some patchy fog.
