A woman died after being struck by a train at the Ashby BART station early this afternoon, BART officials said.
BART officials said it may have been a suicide.
At 12:47 p.m., the person was sighted on the BART tracks at the station, according to BART. "They were apparently struck by a train," said Jim Allison, BART's deputy chief communications officer in a media hotline recording.
Ashby Station was closed while BART police investigated the incident and trains passed through without stopping. The station reopened around 3 p.m. The Richmond lines were stopped for 45 minutes and afterward continued to experience what BART termed "major delays."
