False Murder Report, Robbery Thwarted, Gun in Party-Headed Car

The El Cerrito police blotter for Oct. 5-7 includes a false report of a homicide, an attempted robbery stopped by neighbor, and the arrest of four juveniles found to have a loaded gun in their car on the way to an El Cerrito party.

October 5 

Brandishing a weapon – 3200 block of Carlson Blvd 
Officer Wells reports that a 57 year-old man from Richmond pointed a firearm at a victim following a disagreement at 1045 hours. The suspect fled prior to police arrival. 

Auto Burglary – 5010 El Cerrito Plaza 
Officer Wells reports the victim’s Honda Accord was broken into via a rear window while parked in front of the business, sometime between 1100 and 1200 hours. 

Obstructing a police investigation – 7100 block of Mound Ave. 
Officers responded to an address after a family member reported a possible homicide. While attempting to investigate the incident, a 48 year-old man from El Cerrito disobeyed officers’ orders to comply and attempted to flee the scene. The male was arrested and booked at the El Cerrito Police Department before he was released on a citation. 
[Editor's note: the "possible homicide" mentioned in this blotter item turned out to be a false report, police told Patch. A woman who had been reported as murdered was found to be "in fine health and unharmed," police said.]

 October 6 

Strong-arm Robbery – 11319 San Pablo Ave. 
Officer Leone reports that a suspect entered the business at 1135 hours and became involved in a verbal argument with several customers. The suspect then walked behind the counter and pinned the clerk up against the counter where he took cash and fled on foot. 

Attempted Strong-arm Robbery – Key Blvd. / Humboldt Ave. 
Cpl. Wahrlich reports that a victim was confronted by a male that demanded money at 1900 hours. A neighbor saw the interaction and scared the suspect away before he could take any belongings. 

Possession a firearm, tobacco and curfew violations - Lexington Ave. / Eureka Ave. 
Officer Wong conducted a traffic stop on Lexington Ave and Eureka Ave. Four juveniles rode in the vehicle on their way to a party in El Cerrito. Officer Wong found a loaded pistol in the car and arrested the juveniles. The group was from Suisun, Richmond, and San Pablo. Officers detained the group for possession of the weapon, curfew and tobacco violations. Officers released three of the juveniles to their guardians and took the fourth juvenile to Juvenile Hall. Officers spent additional time making sure the party ended in an orderly manner. 

October 7 

No major incidents.
