Elderly El Cerrito Beating Victim Still Critical, But Stable, Police Say

The 81-year-old El Cerrito woman who was found badly beaten in the Big O Tires parking lot Saturday morning remained in critical condition Sunday, but also stable, police said Sunday night.

An 81-year-old El Cerrito woman who was in the Big O Tires parking lot Saturday morning remained in critical condition Sunday but was also listed as stable, Richmond police said Sunday night.

There were no new developments in the case, said police Lt. Bisa French.

The woman – discovered by a Big O employee shortly after 9 a.m. – was badly injured and may have been sexually assaulted as well, French told reporters Saturday. She was airlifted by medical helicopter to a local hospital.

Big O store manager Art Ochoa told KGO-TV that the victim was bloodied with a swollen face and merely nodded without speaking when he spoke to her.

The time of the attack was unknown, police said Saturday.

The tire store at 10733 San Pablo Ave. sits on the El Cerrito-Richmond border, across the street from the Marshalls department store and near the intersection with Portola Avenue, about three blocks south of El Cerrito City Hall.

Richmond police are seeking information about whoever attacked the woman. Anyone with information is asked to contact them, 510-233-1214.
