El Cerrito Weekend Police Blotter: 2 Commercial Burglaries, Robbery Arrest

The El Cerrito Police Department wrote and selected the following blotter items. 

Friday, Dec. 27


Strong Armed Robbery Arrest – El Cerrito Police Department 10900 San Pablo Ave. 
After seeing an El Cerrito PD report on the news for a robbery that occurred on 12/20/13, the suspect’s family recognized their son, a 23-year-old man from Richmond, as the suspect on the flyer. The man’s father drove him to the police department to turn him in. After being booked and interviewed, the suspect was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

Driving under the Influence and DUI Probation Arrest – San Pablo Ave. at Potrero Ave. 
At 9:57 a.m., an El Cerrito police officer arrested a 43-year-old Richmond man for D.U.I. The man had 4 DUI convictions within a ten year period and was on DUI probation. Officers booked the man and then took him to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

Suspicious Circumstance – 11450 San Pablo Ave. 
At 6:19 p.m., officers responded to Safeway for a robbery that just occurred. Officers arrived to find an extremely intoxicated victim who claimed that an unknown suspect struck him in the head and stole $100 in cash. The man had a head wound but was not able to give the officers much detail about what happened. The case is under investigation. The victim was transported to the hospital by AMR. 

Warrant Arrest – 400 block of S. 38th St. 
At 10:49 p.m., while working a DUI special enforcement assignment, officers responded to this location and arrested a resident, a 62-year-old Richmond man, for a DUI warrant. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

Providing False Information to Police – San Pablo Ave. / Moeser Ln. 
At 11:24 p.m., an officer conducted a suspicious vehicle check and arrested the driver, a 27-year-old Oakland man, after he provided a false name to the officer. The man was issued a citation in the field and released. 

Recovered Stolen Vehicle and Possession of Marijuana for Sale, Paraphernalia, and Burglary tools – El Portal Ave. / Mission Bell Ave. 
At 11:48 p.m., while working a DUI special enforcement assignment, officers located a stolen 1998 Honda Civic occupied by three males. The El Cerrito officers stopped the vehicle and were aided by the San Pablo Police Department, in their investigation. They arrested the driver, a 20-year-old man from Vallejo, and both passengers, a 22-year-old Vallejo man and a 26 year old Rodeo man. Officers searched the vehicle and found bags of marijuana, a glass smoking pipe, and a shaved key (used for stealing cars). Officers released the passengers and took the driver to county jail. 

Driving under the Influence – San Pablo Ave. / Potrero Ave. 
At 3:45 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver, a 21-year-old El Cerrito man, for driving under the influence of alcohol. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released to a sober friend. 

Saturday, Dec. 28 


Commercial Burglary – 10398 San Pablo Ave. (Subway) 
Between Friday, Dec. 27 at 9:30 p.m. and Saturday Dec. 28 at 7:17 a.m., an unknown suspect shattered a window on the north side of the business, to gain entry inside. The suspect stole a small deposit bag containing $100 and took $250 from another deposit bag. 

Commercial Burglary – 10616 San Pablo Ave. (Pizza Roma) 
On Friday, Dec. 28 between 12:48 p.m. and 2:20 a.m., an unknown suspect broke open the front door of the business to gain entry. The suspect stole an unknown amount of change from the cash register. 

Shoplifting with Prior Theft Convictions – CVS, 670 El Cerrito Plaza 
At 2:19 p.m., an El Cerrito police officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of a 40-year-old woman from Albany after she was caught stealing merchandise by store employees. The woman had numerous theft convictions in her past which makes any future theft arrests into felonies. Officers booked the woman and then took her to county jail. 

Attempted Residential Burglary – 5600 Jordan Ave. 
Between Dec. 20 at 2 p.m. and Dec. 28 at 2 p.m., an unknown suspect pried the door handle off the front door in an attempt to gain entry into the residence. No entry was made into the residence. 

Driving under the Influence and with a suspended Driver’s License – San Pablo Ave. / Knott Ave. 
At 1:57 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver, a 24-year-old Brentwood man, for driving under the influence of a controlled substance. The man also had a suspended license. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released to a sober friend. 

Driving under the Influence – S. 55th St. / Cypress Ave. 
At 1:53 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver, a 24-year-old Hayward woman, for driving under the influence of alcohol. The woman was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released to a sober friend. 

Sunday, Dec. 29


Auto Burglary – 240 El Cerrito Plaza (Parking Lot) 
An unknown suspect shattered the front driver’s side window to the victim’s silver Chevy Silverado and stole the victim’s wallet. The incident occurred sometime in the morning between 6:15 a.m. and 9:47 a.m. 

Miscellaneous 

An incident reported as a stabbing and robbery in the Hillside Nature Area, on Dec. 21, 2013, is no longer considered a criminal incident. The case is being investigated as a suspicious circumstance.
