El Cerrito Police Nab Three Burglary Suspects in Kensington Case

Called by Kensington for mutual assistance, El Cerrito police captured three suspects fleeing a residential burglary in Kensington on Saturday, Kensington police announced Wednesday.

El Cerrito police rushed to the aid of Kensington police Saturday afternoon and caught three suspects attempting to flee into Tilden Park following a home burglary in Kensington, according to a police news release Wednesday.

At 3:27 p.m., Kensington police Acting Sgt. Kevin Hui was dispatched to check on a report of a possible burglary in progress at a residence on Purdue Avenue in Kensington, according to the release from Kensington police.

A witness indicated that three suspects were running away on a path to Tilden Park, police said.

“Officers from the El Cerrito Police Department responded to the area and following an area search, located and arrested the three suspects without incident,” according to Kensington police. “Property stolen from the residence was located on one of the suspects.”

All three suspects are adults, two from Richmond and one from San Pablo, the police release said. They were booked into the main county jail in Martinez.

Police Detective Keith Barrow is working with El Cerrito and Berkeley investigators “to determine if the suspects are possibly responsible for other recent residential burglaries,” according to Kensington police.

El Cerrito police Detective Corporal Gilbert Tang said El Cerrito police were called for an outside assist.

“The suspects were located with stolen property,” Tang said. The investigation is being handled by Kensington police, he said.
