El Cerrito Police Log: Stolen Cars, DUI Arrests, Robberies On The Street

Some of the incidents that kept El Cerrito police officers busy last week

These are some of the items that appeared on the El Cerrito Police Department logs from August 30 to Sept. 5.

Friday, August 30

Stolen car: A resident of Gordon Avenue informed police that his 1995 blue Honda Civic was stolen overnight from in front of his home.

DUI arrest: A 33-year-old El Cerrito woman was arrested for driving under the influence after officers stopped her car at San Pablo Avenue and Plumas Avenue.

Saturday, August 31

Stolen vehicle: Officers were informed that a 1999 Acura Integra that was parked on San Carlos Avenue was stolen overnight.

Sexual battery: A woman who is legally blind told police she was walking home from El Cerrito Plaza at about 4:20 p.m. when a man came up behind her and made verbal sexual advances. He then lifted the back of her dress. The suspect is described as a white man in his 30s, 5-foot-10 and 160 to 180 pounds.

Drunken driving arrest: A 51-year-old El Cerrito woman was arrested for driving under the influence after officers stopped her car on the 600 block of Clayton Avenue.

Another DUI arrest: A 20-year-old Hayward man was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol after officers noticed his vehicle traveling down Cutting Boulevard with both passengers tires shredded.

Monday, Sept. 1

Theft from auto: A resident on the 2600 block of Monte Vista informed officers that someone broke into his unlocked car overnight and took a GPS unit, a disabled parking placard and a garage door opener.

Another theft from auto: A resident on the 400 block of Albemarie Street told police someone broke into her unlocked car overnight and stole six purses worth $400.

Stolen vehicle: Police were notified that someone stole a Ford F-150 truck from in front of a home on the 900 block of Kearney Street overnight. The home was burglarized a week earlier and car keys were taken.

Another stolen vehicle: An Acura TL 2.5 was stolen overnight from a driveway at a home on the 900 block of Liberty Street.

Home burglary: A woman told police she arrived at her home on the 2200 block of Pinehurst Avenue and found two teens running through her back yard and jumping over a fence. The two juveniles got into a car driven by a man in his 40s. The vehicle sped off westbound on Cutting Boulevard. The home's back door had been kicked in and the house had been ransacked.

Monday, Sept. 2

Stolen car: A white Honda Civic was stolen overnight from in front of a home on 7100 block of Blake Street.

Armed robbery: Two people were robbed by an armed suspect and another man while they were standing in front of a home on the 300 block of Pomona Avenue. More information on this incident and another robbery that may have been done by the same suspects can be found in this Patch article.

Tuesday, Sept. 3

Stolen car: Residents on the 1200 block of King Drive notified police that her 1992 Honda Accord had been stolen from in front of their home sometime during the previous few days.

Necklace stolen: A woman told police she was walking along Cypress Avenue about 7 p.m. when a man passed her on the sidewalk, then turned around and yanked a gold necklace from her neck. The suspect ran southbound on South 56th Street.

Wednesday, Sept. 4

Gardener robbed: A gardener told police he noticed a man taking a gas-powered tool from the back of his work truck on the 8600 block of Don Carol Drive. The gardener tackled the suspect and pinned him on the ground. Another suspect emerged, pointed a gun at the gardener and forced him to let the first suspect go. The two men drove off in a gray Toyota SUV. Both suspects are described as Hispanic men in their early 20s.

Stolen car near BART: A man told police he parked his 1995 Honda Civic at 11 a.m. at Richmond Street and Elm Street and walked to the El Cerrito del Norte BART station. When the man returned at 9:30 p.m., he discovered his car had been stolen.

Thursday, Sept. 5

Burglary suspects arrested: Police arrested three burglary suspects after neighbors called 911 after seeing the men kicking in the door of a neighbor's home on Devonshire Drive. The men ran off but were captured in a nearby neighborhood. The searched required police to lock down Madera Elementary School for a half-hour. Backpack stolen: A suspect smashed the rear window of a Porsche 944 parked in the 3500 block of Carlson Boulevard and stole a backpack that contained cash.

DUI arrest: A 41-year-old Oakland man was arrested for driving under the influence after officers found him asleep at the wheel of his parked van on San Pablo Avenue near Eureka Avenue shortly after 11 p.m.

Man assaulted, robbed: A man told police several suspects attacked him while he was walking on San Diego Street about 11:20 p.m. and stole his cell phone and wallet. The suspects then ran off. The victim was taken to a hospital to be treated for bruises and a cut on his head.
