El Cerrito Police Log: Drunken Driving, Cell Phone Thefts, Robbery On The Street

Here are some of the incidents that kept El Cerrito police busy last week

Some of the items listed on the El Cerrito Police Department logs from August 26 to August 29.

Monday, August 26

Sexual assault arrest: Police arrested a 54-year-old homeless man on the 10800 block of San Pablo Avenue for a sexual assault warrant.

Missing person found: An elderly person was reported missing from a home in the 6500 block of Gladys Avenue. The woman was found the next day at San Francisco International Airport.

Tuesday, August 27

Drunken driving: At 1:41 a.m., officers arrested a 20-year-old El Cerrito man for driving under the influence after stopping his car at Arlington Boulevard and Brewster Drive.

Another DUI arrest: At 3 a.m., officers arrested a 24-year-old Richmond man for driving under the influence at South 56th Street and Madison Avenue. A woman had phoned police to report her boyfriend was intoxicated and had taken her car without permission to buy more alcohol.

Cell phone theft: At 10:28 a.m., a customer at the Starbucks in El Cerrito Plaza reported a teenager grabbed a cell phone from their hand and ran out of the store. At about the same time, another man snatched a cell phone from another customer. That customer chased after the suspect, who eventually gave the phone back. He ran off after saying his accomplice would shoot the victim. Police said it's not recommended that victims try to apprehend criminals as it can lead to injury.

Laptop theft: At 2:57 p.m., a customer at the Peet's coffee shop on San Pablo Avenue reported a man grabbed the victim's laptop computer while they were sitting inside the business. The suspect and an accomplice jumped into a 2013 gold Cadillac with license plate number 6ZVT043 and drove off.

Wednesday, August 28

Auto burglary: A car owner notified police at 6:10 p.m. that someone had broken the front passenger window of his Dodge Sprinter van and stolen a cell phone. The vehicle was parked at Nation's Hamburgers on Central Avenue.

Stolen car: At 11:21 p.m., officers were notified that a 2000 Honda Civic had been stolen from the 5700 block of El Dorado Street.

Thursday, August 29

Home burglary: A burglar kicked in the rear door of a home on the 2300 block of Carquinez Avenue and stole several iPads and other electronic equipment.

Robbery on street: At 11:00 p.m., officers responded to a report of a robbery. A man told officers he was walking on Richmond Street when two men stopped him and demanded his property. One of the men simulated that he had a weapon in his sweatshirt pocket, so the victim complied. The suspects then ran off.

Burglary attempt: At 12:05 a.m., officers went to Steve's Auto Care on San Pablo Avenue for a report of a burglary. A large front window of the business had been broken. The suspect apparently entered the store but did not take anything.
