El Cerrito Police Launch Crime Blotter

As part of a new initiative to increase police communication with the community, the El Cerrito police department this week launched a crime blotter. The department also has begun optional notifications sent by email and cell phone.

El Cerrito police this week initiated a new "crime blotter," expected to be issued twice a week. The "weekend crime blotter" below was released Wednesday and covers the previous Friday through Sunday.

The crime blotter follows Monday's official launch of a  by which police notices are sent free to those who wish to receive them by email and/or cell-phone. The service is provided by nixle.com, a national network that many other police agencies around the nation are using.

The crime blotter is included in the notifications that El Cerrito police are distributing on nixle.com. Those who wish to receive the notifications can sign up at nixle.com.

FRIDAY JUNE 15TH – SUNDAY JUNE 17TH 2012 

June 15th 2012 

Motorcycle Collision - Richmond Street at Glenwood Way 
Officers responded to a solo vehicle motorcycle collision where the motorcyclist lost control of his motorcycle. The motorcycle slid several feet and lodged under a parked vehicle. The motorcyclist was transported to the hospital for minor injuries. 

Residential Burglary - 3300 block of Yosemite Avenue 
Officers responded to an in progress residential burglary on the 3300 block of Yosemite and detained two suspects leaving the area. The suspects, a man and a woman, were taken into custody and found to be in possession of stolen property. While searching for their mode of transportation, officers located a parked vehicle that had been reported stolen to Fremont PD in May. 

Shoplifting – Safeway, 11450 San Pablo Avenue 
Officers responded to Safeway for a report of a shoplifting. A 21-year-old man was placed under citizen’s arrest and taken into custody. 

Suspicious Circumstance - 6800 block of Glen Mawr Avenue 
Officers investigated a suspicious circumstance on the 6800 block of Glen Mawr Avenue where a Hispanic male in his 20’s rang the doorbell of the victim’s residence several times. The victim looked into the backyard and saw a black male juvenile lurking through the backyard. The subject then hopped over the perimeter fence and joined several other suspects in a dark grey sedan, possibly a Honda. The vehicle fled westbound on Ganges Avenue prior to officer’s arrival. 

Residential Burglary - 500 Block of Albemarle 
Officers investigated a residential burglary where an unknown suspect forced open the front door to the residence and stole property.

Officers investigated a residential burglary where an unknown suspect forced open the front door to the residence and stole property. 

Driving under the Influence - Intersection of San Pablo Avenue and Central Avenue 
At 0051 hours, Officer Leone conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested a 19-year-old Richmond resident for DUI. 

June 16th 2012 

Recovered Stolen Vehicle - 1100 block of King Drive 
Officer Guzman located a stolen Dodge Dakota reported stolen to Richmond PD in April. 

Possession of Controlled Substance - Intersection of San Pablo Avenue and Hill Street 
Officer Thepkaysone conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested a 30-year-old San Pablo man for possession of cocaine. 

Warrant Arrest - Intersection of Richmond Street and Moeser Lane 
Officer Arnaiz conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the driver, a 19-year-old Richmond resident, for an outstanding warrant. 

Vehicle Collision - Intersection of San Pablo Avenue and Eureka Avenue 
Officers responded to a report of a collision involving an automobile and a pedestrian. Upon arrival officers discovered that two pedestrians were struck by a vehicle traveling southbound on San Pablo Avenue. A 20-year-old pedestrian was transported to John Muir Medical Center by helicopter and the other pedestrian, another 20-year-old man, was transported to Highland Medical Center in Oakland by ambulance. ECPD traffic collision investigators were called to the scene and are conducting the investigation. [Editor's note: El Cerrito Patch published an .]

Vehicle Pursuit - Intersection of San Pablo Avenue and Central Avenue 
Officers initiated a slow speed vehicle pursuit after witnessing a vehicle code violation and attempting to stop the driver. The driver failed to yield to the officer’s lights and siren and continued driving to his home on the 700 block of Pierce Street in Albany. The driver, a 31-year-old Albany man, was taken into custody without further incident. 

June 17th 2012 

DUI Collision - 800 block of S. 55th Street 
Officers responded to a report of a single vehicle collision into a parked car. Upon arrival, officers discovered a 2004 BMW had lost control and struck a residential home and came to rest in the driveway. The driver, a 19-year-old Richmond resident, was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was transported to the hospital for minor injuries sustained from the crash. 

Shoplifting - Safeway, 11450 San Pablo Avenue 
Officers responded to Safeway for a report of a shoplifting that had just occurred. Officers identified the two suspects and arrested a 39-year-old Oakland man and a 22-year-old San Leandro woman for theft, in the parking lot.
