El Cerrito Police Blotter: Robbery Arrest, Shoplifting

The El Cerrito Police Department wrote and selected the following items. 

November 26 

Petty Theft - 1600 Liberty St., Giovanni’s Market 
At 10:52 a.m., officers were dispatched to Giovanni’s Market on the report of a theft that just occurred. While responding to the call, an ECPD officer located a person matching the suspect description at the Del Norte BART station. After an in-field show-up, officers arrested a 32-year-old man from San Francisco. The man was booked at the ECPD and then released with a citation. 

Warrant Arrest - Eastshore Blvd and San Pablo Avenue 
At 7:20 p.m., an officer conducted a pedestrian stop and arrested a 41-year-old man from San Francisco for a warrant for failing to comply with the terms of his probation (theft related crime). The officer booked the man at ECPD and then transported him to the county jail. 

November 27 

Auto Burglary - Central Avenue and Oak Street 
At 4:03 a.m., an officer on patrol noticed a broken driver’s side window on a parked van. The officer contacted the owner and determined that an unknown suspect had broken the window but only stole a clipboard from the van. The burglary occurred sometime between 0130 and 0400 hours. 

Petty Theft/Warrant Arrest - 11450 San Pablo Ave., Safeway 
At 2:42 p.m., ECPD officers were dispatched to Safeway regarding a petty theft that just occurred. While en route to the scene, officers located a person matching the suspect description sitting on a bench at the Bruce King Dog Park. Officers conducted an in-field show-up and the Safeway employee identified the person being detained as the thief. Officers arrested the suspect, a 36 year-old Richmond man. While in-custody, the officers discovered the man also had a warrant for a theft related offense. The man was booked at the ECPD and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

Shoplifting - AT&T Wireless 4010 EC Plaza 
At 7:26 p.m., an officer responded to a report of a shoplifting which occurred inside the business. The officer learned that an unknown suspect used a cutting tool to cut the security wire to a display cell phone and then fled on foot onto Fairmount Avenue. 

Battery - 700 block of Colusa Avenue 
At 6:33 p.m., an officer was flagged down to the rear of the police station by the victim of a battery. The victim reported that she was punched in the face by her daughter during an argument while in their home an hour earlier. Officers went to the home and accepted the citizen’s arrest of the 18-year-old woman and transported her to ECPD for booking. After booking, an officer transported the woman to the county jail. 

November 28 

Public Intoxication - South 55th Street and School Street 
At 1:45 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop on a vehicle and learned the driver was driving on a suspended license. One of the passengers was heavily intoxicated and refused to follow the commands of the officers on scene. A Sergeant arrested the 22-year-old man from San Pablo and transported him to ECPD for booking. After booking the man was transported to the county jail.

Auto Burglary - 5800 block of Central Ave.
An unknown suspect used a screwdriver and to force open a door lock to gain access to the vehicle. Once inside, the suspect rummaged through the vehicle and stole five dollars. The theft occurred between Nov. 27 at 7:30 p.m. and Nov. 28 at 10 a.m. 

Warrant Arrest - 11565 San Pablo Ave., Walgreens 
At 9:30 a.m., an officer saw a man urinating near the trash bins to the rear of the business. The officer contacted the 52-year-old man from Richmond and discovered he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. The man was arrested, booked at the ECPD and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

Warrant Arrest - 1751 Eastshore Blvd. 
At 2:07 p.m., a 34-year-old man from San Francisco was arrested on an outstanding warrant during a suspicious person contact. The man was booked at the ECPD and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

Robbery Arrest (Follow-up Investigation) - San Pablo Ave. at Potrero Ave. 
At 1:36 p.m., officers spotted a 24-year-old Richmond man who was recently identified as the responsible party in a robbery which took place in front of Citibank in the EC Plaza on Nov. 3. Officers arrested the man, booked him and took him to county jail. 

Public Intoxication - Norvell Street and Donal Avenue 
At 7:41 p.m., an officer on patrol noticed a man lying face down in the front yard of a residence. The officer contacted the man and determined that he was heavily intoxicated. The man did not live at the residence and was unable to care for himself. The officer took the 22-year-old El Cerrito man into custody and transported him to ECPD for booking. After booking the officer transported the man to the county jail.

Auto Burglary - 5800 block of Central Ave. 

At 2:07 a.m., an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and suspected the driver was impaired. The officer conducted field sobriety tests and arrested the 28-year-old Richmond man for DUI. The officer booked the man at ECPD and then released him to a sober friend after issuing him a citation.
