El Cerrito Police Blotter: Ohlone Greenway Robbery, Lottery Scam

October 29 


Possession of methamphetamine, paraphernalia and stolen property - Portola St. at Navellier St. 
An officer conducted a pedestrian stop and contacted a 50 year-old man from Richmond and a 31 year-old woman. During the contact, the officer discovered that the man was in possession of methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, burglary tools and mail belonging to other people. The officer learned that the woman had a warrant for her arrest and was in possession of mail, which did not belong to her. Officers booked the pair at the El Cerrito Police Department and then took them to county jail in Martinez. 

October 30 

Vehicle Theft - 5500 block of Central Ave. 
An unknown suspect stole a 1990 Honda Accord on Oct. 30 between 3 a.m. and 8:30 a.m. 

Robbery – Ohlone Greenway at Conlon Ave. 
Two suspects confronted the victim as he was walking on the Ohlone Greenway. The first suspect approached the victim, brandished a knife and demanded that the victim surrender his belongings. The second suspect took the victim’s backpack, which contained personal electronics. Officers arrived at the scene and began searching for the suspects and evidence. An officer located the victim’s backpack in the pedestrian tunnel of the Richmond Greenway, north of Home Depot. 

Brandishing Firearm - 5600 block of Jordan Ave. 
Officers responded to a residence on the report of a family dispute. During the argument one of the family members retrieved a firearm and threatened to harm another family member. The victim of the brandishing fled the residence and called the ECPD 10 minutes after the incident occurred. Officers responded to address, deployed around the perimeter, and called the suspect out with a public address system. The suspect, a 60 year-old El Cerrito man, exited the residence without further incident and officers arrested him. Officers recovered the weapon and learned that it was a replica firearm. Officers booked the man and took him to county jail in Martinez. 

Warrant Arrest - 11319 San Pablo Ave. 
Officers arrested a 30-year-old Richmond man on an outstanding narcotics warrant. The man was booked at the ECPD and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

October 31 

Auto Burglary - 7100 block of C Street 
At 2:11 a.m., a passerby phoned the El Cerrito Police Department to report a parked vehicle with the doors open. Officers arrived and discovered that the vehicle had been recently burglarized. Officers canvassed the area and located most of the stolen property, which was abandoned near the Harding Clubhouse. The property was returned to the victim. 

Stolen Vehicle Recovery - 2600 block of Mira Vista Drive 
At 2:15 a.m., an officer conducted a registration check on an unoccupied parked Acura Legend and learned that the car was reported stolen to Berkeley PD on Oct. 24. 

Grand Theft by Fraud and Elder Abuse - Marshall’s Clothing Store, 10794 San Pablo Avenue 
While the victim shopped at Marshall’s in the early evening, two male suspects approached her and told her that they just won the lottery. The suspects asked the victim for a ride to Oakland so they could claim their winnings and, in exchange, they would give her a percentage of the money. The victim agreed and after a convincing story by the suspects, she provided them with cash and jewelry as a loan against the winnings. Eventually, the suspects separated from the victim and fled with her money and jewelry. 

Vehicle Theft - 1300 block of Liberty Street 
At 5:33 p.m., an officer responded to a stolen car report. The victim reported that a thief stole their Mazda sometime in the last four days.
