El Cerrito Fire Department Purchasing $950,000 Ladder Truck

The City Council approves a federal grant that covers most of the cost of the new fire engine

The El Cerrito Fire Department will soon be getting a new 103-foot aerial ladder truck at a cost of $950,000.

The City Council on Tuesday night approved funds for the 2014 Spartan four-door cab and chassis.

Most of the money comes from a Federal Emergency Management Agency grant of $856,000.

In addition, the city of El Cerrito will contribute $63,000 and the Kensington Fire Protection District will chip in $31,000.

The engine will be purchased from Hi-Tech Emergency Vehicle Services.

El Cerrito Fire Chief Lance Maples told the council the new truck will allow the district to maintain its current fire protection rating from insurance carriers, according to a story in the Contra Costa Times.
