Construction Convoys Stopped On El Cerrito Streets

Drivers in a "convoy" of heavy trucks with trailers were stopped by El Cerrito Police when they decided to take a shortcut on Moeser Lane early Thursday.

Police managed to stop five of the trucks and ordered the drivers to turn back. The 10-truck convoy included large dump trucks with trailers. The vehicles violated the eight-ton weight limit on Moeser. The drivers were reportedly on their way to a construction project in Kensington, according to El Cerrito Police Sgt. Shawn Maples.

According to Maples, one of the trucks blew out a tire while trying to back down the hill. It took close to 3 1/2 hours to clear the area. The drivers were cited.

El Cerrito Police later Thursday stopped three more heavy vehicles on Potrero heading to an unrelated, private construction job. The construction vehicles violated the same eight-ton weight limit on Potrero.
