The California Highway Patrol is asking for the public's help in locating the driver who fled after striking and killing a 32-year-old man on Interstate Highway 80 in Richmond last Friday just after the man escaped a solo car crash.
The victim, identified as Nathaniel Robinson Sr., of Richmond, was driving his Buick Park Avenue west on Highway 80 near Solano Avenue when he crashed into the roadway's center divider, according to the CHP.
After the crash, Robinson exited the car and attempted to cross the roadway to the right shoulder, but before reaching it, he was struck by a vehicle, CHP officials said.
The vehicle drove away without stopping and the driver never reported the collision, according to the CHP. No description of the suspect vehicle is available, and the CHP is asking for anyone with information to help identify the vehicle or the driver to come forward.
The vehicle will have front-end damage, may have a cracked or smashed windshield and could also have blood or other evidence on it of a collision with a human body, according to the CHP.
Anyone with information regarding the collision, or who sees a vehicle that appears to have damage consistent with the crash is asked to call the CHP's Oakland area office at (510) 450-3821 or (800) 835-5247.
