Car Hits Woman in Wheelchair in Crosswalk on Carlson Boulevard

A 52-year-old woman crossing Carlson Boulevard in a wheelchair was hit by a car Wednesday morning and taken to a hospital with apparently minor injuries, police said.

A 52-year-old Albany woman was taken to a hospital Wednesday morning after she was struck by a car while in a crosswalk in her wheelchair on Carlson Boulevard at San Diego Street, according to El Cerrito police.

Her injuries appeared to be minor, said police Sgt. Shawn Maples. The accident occurred about 9:10 a.m., he said.

The driver of the southbound car, a 48-year-old Oakland woman, was cited for failure to yield the right of way, no proof of insurance and no registration card, Maples said.

San Diego Street runs between Fairmount and Central Avenues and goes four blocks from San Pablo Avenue to the rear of the Pacific East Mall.

I have witnessed an accident on that very same crosswalk a year ago! Flashing lights need to be installed when someone is in the crosswalk alerting drivers. Between those rushing on Carlson and those trying to cross 4 lanes of Carlson on San Diego that intersection is scary and dangerous.
