Burglars Dressed As Workers Strike Kensington Homes

El Cerrito and Kensington Police arrest three suspects on charges of burglary and attempted burglary.

Three men dressed as utility workers were arrested Monday morning after allegedly trying to break into a Kensington home.

A neighbor called El Cerrito Police at 9:50 a.m. after seeing the three suspects apparently attempting to burglarize a home in Kensington. The reporting person gave a detailed description.

The subjects were reportedly using reflective vests and a construction helmet in an attempt to look like service workers.

An El Cerrito Police Officer located the suspect vehicle on Leneve Place. As police arrived at the area, they found the suspects walking away from another home. One man dropped a large screwdriver in the driveway. Police detained the three male suspects as they attempted to leave in a gold-colored 1999 Volvo sports car.

The three men arrested were a 19-year-old Richmond resident, a 21-year-old Berkeley man and a 23-year-old Oakland man.

While police were investigating, a third victim called from an address on Moeser Lane and reported that the same suspects had been at his home a short time earlier.

The resident on Leneve Place told Officers that the suspects had been knocking at the door but he didn't answer it. The resident on Moeser Lane said they knocked on the door and when he answered, they asked for directions then left.

The suspects were arrested for three counts of Attempted Residential Burglary, Conspiracy and Possession of Burglary Tools. All three were booked into the County Jail in Martinez.
