Bicyclist Injured in Hit-and-Run, 4 Home Break-ins, Copper Theft Arrest at Portola

The El Cerrito police blotter for Sept. 14-20 includes a bicyclist injured by a hit-and-run driver on Carlson Blvd., three teens arrested for alleged home-burglary attempts and a man arrested for alleged copper theft at the Portola demolition site.

SEPTEMBER 14, 2012 

Shoplifting – 670 El Cerrito Plaza 
Officer Li reports the arrest of a 53-year old Richmond man after he stole items from the business. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

Driving under the Influence - San Pablo Avenue @ Waldo Avenue 
Sgt. Wong arrested a 31- year old Vallejo resident for DUI during a traffic stop. 

SEPTEMBER 15, 2012 

Attempted Residential Burglary – 7200 block of Manila Ave. 
Officer Arnaiz was flagged down by a citizen and advised that 25 minutes prior to her arrival, three juveniles attempted to burglarize a neighbor’s home. The citizen scared off the suspects prior to the arrival of the police. While El Cerrito Police Officers were investigating the incident, San Pablo Police were dispatched to a similar incident with a similar suspect description. San Pablo PD located the suspects and they were taken into custody in response to their criminal involvement in San Pablo. The juveniles were also determined to be the responsible suspects for the attempted burglary in El Cerrito. Arrested were a 17-year old Richmond male, a 16-year old Antioch male, and a 16-year old San Pablo male. All three juveniles were transported to the Contra Costa County Juvenile Hall. 

Commercial Burglary – 1751 Eastshore Blvd. 
Officer Li reports the arrest of a 62-year old Richmond man after he stole items from the business. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

Warrant Arrest – Hill St. and Lexington Ave. 
Officer Aguilar reports the arrest of a 27-year old Oakland woman for an outstanding parole violation warrant. The woman was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

Vehicle Theft & Evading- 10841 San Pablo Avenue 
Officer Schillinger and Officer Evans arrested a 25-year old Berkeley woman for being in possession of a stolen vehicle and for leading officers on a brief pursuit. The woman was booked into the Martinez Detention Facility. 

Possession of a controlled substance & paraphernalia - San Pablo Avenue @ Blake Street 
Officer Schillinger arrested a 32-year old Richmond resident for being in possession of methamphetamine and a smoking device during a traffic stop. 

Burglary - 6900 block of Blake Street- 
Officer Schillinger investigated a residential burglary where a suspect forced entry into the residence via the rear sliding glass door. The burglary occurred during the daytime/early evening. 

Burglary - 6600 block of Cutting Boulevard- 
Officer Schillinger investigated a residential burglary where the suspect entered the residence via bedroom window. The burglary occurred during the daytime/early evening hours. 

SEPTEMBER 16, 2012 

Stolen Vehicle – 1500 block of Douglas Dr. 
Officer Arnaiz reports that an unknown suspect stole the victim’s 1988 Honda Civic sometime between 0100 and 1000 hours on 9/16/12. 

Shoplifting – 11450 San Pablo Ave. 
Officer Aguilar reports the arrest of a 41-year-old Richmond man after he stole items from the business. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

Stolen Vehicle - 6200 block of Cypress Avenue 
Officer Del Prado reports an unknown suspect stole the victim’s 2000 blue Honda Civic sometime between 1745 and 2045 hours on the 16th.

SEPTEMBER 17, 2012 

Vehicle Theft – 7800 block of Eureka Ave. 
Officer Li reports that the suspect stole the victim’s 1999 Honda Civic sometime between 9/16/12 at 1930 hours and 9/17/12 at 0745 hours. 

Located Stolen Vehicle – Midcrest Ct. 
While investigating the above stolen vehicle, Officer Li located a 1992 Honda Accord reported stolen to ECPD on 9/17/12 at 0322 hours. 

Vehicle Theft – 100 block of San Carlos Ave. 
Officer Arnaiz reports that an unknown suspect stole the victim’s 1995 Ford Bronco sometime between 9/16/12 at 2130 hours and 9/17/12 at 0800 hours. While she investigated the theft, Richmond Police located the vehicle. 

Located Stolen Vehicle – 100 block of San Carlos Ave. 
While investigating the above stolen vehicle, Officer Arnaiz located an unreported stolen from the 6100 block of Huntington Ave. Office Arnaiz contacted the victim and learned that the suspect stole the vehicle during the night. 

Hit and Run – Carlson Blvd. @ San Diego St. 
Officer Cheng reports that the victim was riding his bicycle southbound on Carlson Blvd., attempting to merge into the number one lane when a newer model white Chevy Malibu struck him. The victim fell to the ground in the number one lane and the driver fled the scene. An ambulance took the victim to the hospital for minor injuries. 

Burglary – 7200 block of Waldo Ave. 
Officer Evans reports an unknown suspect stole a bicycle from the garage of the victim residence, sometime between 9/15 and 9/17. 

Stolen Vehicle – Eastshore Blvd. @ Potrero Ave. 
Officer Evans recovered a 2012 Chrysler 200, which was reported stolen to the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office on August 31. 

Burglary – 4010 El Cerrito Plaza 
Officer Evans reports an unknown suspect entered AT&T, cut a security cable and stole a Samsung phone. 

Located Stolen Vehicle – 400 block of Village Drive 
Officer Del Prado recovered a 1999 Honda Civic that was reported as stolen to the ECPD earlier in the day. (See first entry) 

SEPTEMBER 18, 2012 

Vehicle Theft – 5800 Block Avila St 
Officer Jacala reports the theft of a 1996 Honda Accord between 9/17/12 (7:00 pm) – 9/18/12 (5:00 am). Later in his shift Officer Jacala located and recovered the Honda abandoned on Tehama Ave & Mariposa St. 

Vandalism – 10860 San Pablo Ave 
Officer Wong reports an unknown suspect shattered a window with an unknown object at the old Tradeway building. The vandalism occurred between 5:00 am & 7:30 am this morning. 

Shoplifting / Warrant Arrest – Safeway 11450 San Pablo Ave 
Officer Wong reports security staff at Safeway placed a male under citizen’s arrest for stealing alcohol. The male was also wanted on a DUI warrant from Richmond PD. He was booked and transported to Martinez Detention Facility 

Embezzlement Arrest – CVS Pharmacy 10650 San Pablo Ave 
Officer Wells reports the arrest of a female employee for embezzlement of merchandise during the past 3 months. She was booked and released with a citation 

Warrant Arrest- San Pablo Avenue and Cutting Boulevard 
Officer Elder arrested a 39-year-old El Sobrante man for a warrant from San Francisco. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

Residential Burglary- 100 block of Ashbury Avenue 
Officer Strang reports that an unknown suspect entered the residence through an open back door and stole cash from the home. The burglary occurred between 3pm and 5:30pm. 

SEPTEMBER 19, 2012 

Commercial Burglary – Portola Middle School Construction Site 
Officer Wells reports unknown suspect(s) entered the eastern fenced area of Portola Middle School construction site and forced entry to a temporary office building. The suspects(s) stole computer equipment and damaged the building. The burglary occurred between 9/18 4:00 pm & 9/19/12 6:30 am. 

Residential Burglary – 200 Block Ashbury Avenue 
Officer Jacala reports unknown suspect(s) utilized a garbage bin to climb through an open kitchen window and burglarize the residence. The burglary occurred on 09/18/12 between 1100 hours & 2000 hours. 

Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol - San Pablo Avenue and Moeser Lane 
Officer Thepkaysone conducted a traffic enforcement stop and arrested the 27 year old male driver for DUI. The man was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released with a citation. 

Shoplifter – Safeway 11450 San Pablo Ave. 
Officer Thepkaysone reports that Safeway loss prevention agents placed a 30-year-old female from Richmond under Citizen’s Arrest for theft. After booking the suspect was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

SEPTEMBER 20, 2012 

Commercial Burglary Arrest – Portola Middle School Demolition Site 
While conducting follow up at the Portola Middle School demolition site, Officer Wong located a male walking away from the site while in possession of heavy-duty wire/cable cutters. His investigative stop turned into an arrest when copper wire from the school was located next to male and the cuts to the wire matched the cutters in his possession. The male was covered in dirt and grease which was similar to that in the equipment room from where the wire had been cut and pulled. He was also found to have a similar arrest by RPD for copper wire theft. Booked and transported to Martinez Detention Facility. 

Theft Arrest – El Cerrito Community Center 
Officer Jacala reports the arrest of female juvenile at 1252 hours after officers found her in possession of property stolen from a purse at the El Cerrito Community Center. She was booked and released on a Juvenile Affidavit to her grandmother. 

DUI Arrest - S.55th St and Cypress Ave 
Officer Elder conducted a traffic enforcement stop at 0015 hours and arrested a 38-year-old man from Richmond for DUI. After booking, the man was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

Missing Juvenile Located - 3030 El Cerrito Plaza 
Around 2000 hours, Officer Strang located a fourteen-year-old female who was missing from Stockton. Officers arranged for her return to her mother.
