Bicyclist Airlifted to Hospital After Colliding with Car on Waldo and Liberty

Police say the driver of the car was not at fault.

A bicyclist was airlifted to a hospital in Walnut Creek after he was hit by a car at the intersection of Waldo Avenue and Liberty Street around 10:45 a.m. Tuesday, according to El Cerrito police.

Sgt. Shawn Maples said the cyclist was an adult male who sustained head injuries and other "blunt-force trauma" when he failed to stop at a stop sign and was struck by a Nissan Pathfinder. The unidentified bicyclist was not wearing a helmet, according to police. A REACH helicopter flew him to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek.
