BART Path Shooting in El Cerrito – No Such Recent Incidents in Albany, Richmond, Police Say

Following the Wednesday afternoon shooting of two Albany High students on the BART path near the El Cerrito Library, police in Albany and Richmond say they've not seen similar incidents on the BART path in their cities.

Police in Albany and Richmond said today, Thursday, that they've not seen recent attacks on the BART path in their cities similar to the shooting of two Albany High School students on the path Wednesday in El Cerrito.

Two of three Albany High students who were on the path together – a freshman and two sophomores – were shot just before 2 p.m. by two young males who apparently had accosted them about their shoes, according to El Cerrito police Capt. Michael Regan and Albany High Principal Ted Barone.

One student received a superficial flesh wound in the face, while the other was "critically" injured, Barone said. The latter student was listed in stable condition this morning, Barone said. The third student escaped without injury.

Police were seeking the two assailants, who fled on foot eastbound on Stockton Avenue.

Albany police Lt. Dan Adams and Richmond police Lt. Bisa French told Patch this morning that there have been no similar recent incidents on the stretches of the BART path in their cities.

The path, which runs under the elevated BART tracks, is known also as the Ohlone Greenway in El Cerrito and Albany and as the Richmond Greenway in Richmond.

The shooting occurred on the path segment between Stockton and Lincoln avenues, about 100 yards south of Stockton, near Fairmont Elementary School and the next-door El Cerrito Library.

The shooters were described by police as young African-American males in dark clothing, including black hooded sweatshirts.

I've spoken with him, he is educated, intelligent and articulate. He is also angry and sometimesRead More irrational. I dont know his story but his "street art" stands on its own legs. If you would like to help him, and yourself, buy and enjoy his art.

A neighbor of mine on Colusa tried to give him food when he was on Colusa, but he refused, so IRead More never tried. Dorothy, is that the shelter near the Berkeley Historical Society/Veteran's Building? Perhaps he would need a ride to it. Perhaps he's concerned about leaving his things there if he can't be there during the day. I'm afraid I don't know enough about it.

I did mention that I'm donating 10% of my royalties for "Midnight" to the EC's Open SpaceRead More fund, didn't I? I'm a Down-home Ten Percenter.

Lucy, I like the idea in principal, but in reality I think it would just give ECPD more work to do.Read More "People hanging out" doesn't necessarily translate to a friendly,fun-filled, folksy kind of environment. It *can* mean quite the reverse. "Midnight On the Ohlone" sounds like a new recording. Something like "I left my little babeeeeee, down by the tracks....and now I want her back....she's a needle in the haaaaaaay staaaaack...' Arhoolie awaits.

What a great idea for pocket parks!!! I am all for them. Instead of spening a big amount on oneRead More (which we don't have space anyway), I would like to see many mini parks of $20,000 along the Bart tracks. With more visibility and people hanging out, it would make Bart paths safer too, especially the one around fairmont park. Really mini pocket parks just needs some play structures, benches and tables there.
