by Bay City News

A man was fatally struck by a car on westbound Interstate Highway 80 in Richmond early this morning after getting out of his crashed vehicle, according to the California Highway Patrol.

A man, identified by the Contra Costa County coroner's office as Nathaniel Robinson Sr., 32, was found around 12:25 a.m. down on the highway west of Solano Avenue. Robinson, a Richmond resident, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the CHP. According to the CHP, Robinson had been in a solo-vehicle crash moments earlier. He had crashed into the center divide and then got out of his car. He tried to walk across several lanes of traffic to get to the right shoulder when the car struck him. Witnesses told the CHP that he was hit multiple times by other cars that did not stop.

After the incident, a Sig-alert was issued and all westbound lanes near Solano Avenue were closed. All lanes reopened by 2:20 a.m., according to the CHP. Anyone with information about the case is asked to call the CHP's Oakland area office at (510) 450-3821.
