2 Residents Escape El Cerrito House Fire

Fire officials are investigating the cause of the fire.

Two people safely escaped a one-alarm house fire in the El Cerrito hills this morning, a fire battalion chief said.

Crews responded around 10:55 a.m. to reports of a fire at a home in the 900 block of Seaview Drive, El Cerrito Fire Department Battalion Chief Larry Carr said.

Two residents at home at the time were able to evacuate without injury. The fire burned the home's carport and some items in storage but no vehicles.

Firefighters were able to knock the fire down in about 10 minutes, Carr said. The fire caused an estimated $80,000 to $100,000 in damage, he said.

Fire investigators are looking into what caused the blaze and whether there is any link to recent vegetation fires in the area over the weekend, the battalion chief said.
