Activities Announced for Richmond

On April 26, the YMCA of the East Bay will celebrate Healthy Kids Day® with free community events for kids and families in Richmond. More than 1,500 Ys across the country are taking part in the celebration, meant to kick-start physical activity and learning throughout the summer – a critical out-of-school time for kids.

This year the E.M. Downer Family YMCA, located at 263 South 20th Street, will hold their Healthy Kids Day activities from 11:00am-2:00pm.

Activities include: a fitness passport program, a family wellness walk, rock climbing, Jewel’s cheer & tumbling, free face painting, board games and jumpers.  A free health fair will also be available with tables from Kaiser PermanenteFresh ApproachBrookside/Lifelong Community Health and Master Gardener (with tomato plants).  Healthy food choices will also be available.

As a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility, the Y holds Healthy Kids Day (a national Y initiative) to teach healthy habits and inspire a lifetime love of being healthy from head to toe. The Y aims to build on the incredible potential inside each and every kid.

“It is our goal to be able to teach the kids and their parents how to live a healthy lifestyle year-round through fun, active play and educational activities,” said Robert A. Wilkins, President & CEO of the YMCA of the East Bay.

The YMCA of the East Bay, a local expert in the pillars of healthy living, continually encourages the foundations of health by providing kids the education and outlets to engage in active play, get together and building strong relationships, enjoy the outdoors and make healthy eating choices.
