ECHS Theater and Dance Conservatory Performances Coming Up April 25-27

El Cerrito High School will be presenting Naomi Iizuka’s “Anon(ymous)”  on Friday, April 25, Saturday April 26th at 7:30 pm, Sunday April 27th at 2:30 pm at the ECHS Performing Arts Theater. The production is the first theater production cast from the entire student body in years, directed by Theater Director  Carmen Bush.  The Dance Conservatory students are creating the set with motion, under the direction of  Dance Director Jessie Kronenberg.  Anon(ymous) is loosely based on Homer’s The Odyssey and is the modern story of a young refugee who fled to America from a war-torn country, separated from family, filled with diverse adventures about immigrant life.  Senior Gaby Flamenco, who plays Ritu, said the play “reminds me of my family in El Salvador, and that they are so far away and how I miss them.”The innovative use of dancers as the set has been eye-opening for the actors. Kazaria Phillips (Nemasani) shared that “my initial reaction was excitement over having another artistic element in the play, but as the rehearsals progress, I feel the dancers make it even better than she imagined.”Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for seniors and students at the door. Alumni-roasted Gauchos Coffee will be available for purchase in ground or whole bean in the lobby, along with other theater swag.   For more information about supporting the program, email cbush@wccusd.net
