Patty Berndt, Active with El Cerrito for Decades, Dies at 81

Berndt spent most of her time as a community volunteer and was involved in several local organizations.

Longtime El Cerrito resident Patty Berndt, who dedicated many years as a local volunteer recently passed away at 81 on March 30.

According to the Mercury News, several hundred had attended her April 14 memorial service at Sunset View Cemetery.

Berndt spent most of her time as a community volunteer. She was involved with several local organizations including the Contra Costa Civic Theatre, the Fairmont School PTA, Love is the Answer (LITA) of Contra Costa County, the American Cancer Society, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, the Thumbelina Chapter of Children's Home Society, Our Club, the El Cerrito Women's Club, Northminster Presbyterian Church and the Inner Wheel chapter of the Rotary Club of El Cerrito.

She was a Berkeley native and secretary for many years at the El Cerrito Chamber of Commerce. She also wrote columns for the West County Times and El Cerrito Journal.
