Some of the people with ties to El Cerrito who passed away recently

Marvin E. Collins: A resident of El Cerrito, Collins migrated to the East Bay in 1935 from his native South Dakota during the Dust Bowl era. He got into the carpentry business and eventually formed Marvin Collins Construction, which built schools, apartments, churches, shopping centers and hospitals. He was past president of the El Cerrito Rotary Club and the Mira Vista Country Club. Collins passed away on June 19 at the age of 98.

Joan Catherine Deabenderfer: A native of Massachusetts, Deabenderfer's family moved to El Cerrito when she was 12. She married her high school sweetheart, Judge Robert C. Deabenderfer. They lived on a small ranch in Oakdale before moving to Kern County. Joan Deabenderfer passed away on July 9 at the age of 83.
