The City Council voted 4-0, with Greg Lyman absent, Tuesday (July 16) to purchase a 7.6-acre hillside property just below Madera Elementary School. The property will become part of the 85-acre El Cerrito Hillside Natural Area, providing a connection between portions of the natural area to the north and south.
The city could spend up to $475,000 of its share of WW park bond funds on the property, but the amount could be much less depending on how much money can be raised through local donations and through grants. San Francisco-based Trust for Public Land is working with the city on purchase of the land and fundraising.
