Stash's Palaver

Thank You, Charlie. Les Mis Comes to El Cerrito. Firefighters Toy Program. Change Toys for Oil at Marty's. First Crab Feed Announced.

Charles E. Weaver, certified public accountant and long time member of the El Cerrito Chamber of Commerce, has resigned from the Board of Directors due to health reasons. Charlie began serving as Treasurer (now Secretary-Treasurer) in 1984.

He was one of the old guard at the Chamber we could always depend on. When there was a call to assist with some Chamber function, Charlie would quickly “turn to” (in Navy vernacular) and get the job done. He deserves a huge thank you and “well done” from the Board of Directors.

Vacancies are filled by appointment by the remaining directors. Charlie’s term runs through next year. The Board will fill the seat and name a new Secretary-Treasurer at their next meeting.

24601 comes to 94530? Les Mis fans know what I mean. This is big news! Our own Rialto Cinemas Cerrito (aka the Cerrito Theater) will screen the new film version of Les Misérables starting on Christmas. Watch for theater announcements about early ticket sales. Wouldn’t it be something if this great musical played on stage at Contra Costa Civic Theatre some day? That’s something to think about and hope for.

Suzanne Iarla, Community Outreach Specialist for the City of El Cerrito, sent a note calling attention to the Richmond/El Cerrito Firefighters Annual Toy Program for disadvantaged children of west Contra Costa County. You can help by hosting a donation barrel at your business. For more information or to participate, contact Rob Murphy of the ECFD at (510) 215-4450. His e-mail address: rmurphy@ci.el-cerrito.ca.us.

Free oil change. Each year Marty Kaliski holds a toy drive. Bring in a new, in the package toy, and get a free oil change for your vehicle. Now that’s the holiday spirit! Marty’s Motors is located at 10929 San Pablo Avenue in El Cerrito. Phone (510) 235-6000.

Crabs in El Cerrito? You betcha! Mark your calendars now for the annual Albany-El Cerrito Exchange Club crab feed to be held Saturday, January 26th, at 6 p.m. Tickets are $40 and can be obtained from Howard Abelson (510) 223-5910. You can also purchase tickets at Don’s Tire Service, 820 Gilman Street, Berkeley.

Some in Richmond do not agree with your viewpoint. http://www.tombutt.com/forum/2013/1305010.htmRead More “I have never seen a public servant work harder for anything than WCCUSD School Board member Charles Ramsey worked to complete the District’s ambitious program to rebuild or upgrade every single school in the system.” I wonder how this court decision will impact WCCUSD. http://www.contracostatimes.com/breaking-news/ci_23447723/state-high-court-denies-review-alamedas-measure-h State high court denies review in Alameda's Measure H suit The ruling in the Alameda case is expected to have far reaching consequences for school districts throughout the state as similar lawsuits over parcel tax structures have been filed in Yolo, Contra Costa and Los Angeles counties.

The WCCUSD needs to hear what thoughts citizens have on this matter. Currently, the WCCUSD boardRead More meetings have placed the Public Comment period late in the meeting, making it difficult for folks to comment. I have started a petition for modifying the agenda. http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/let-us-speak-wccusd/ In Hercules, we are still awaiting a correction to the taxation process, that apparently we are due a higher percentage as explained by Councilman Romero here http://pinole-hercules.patch.com/groups/opinion/p/2012-hercules-dan-romero Wouldn't it be ironic if Mr. Ramsey get's his wish before the citizens of Hercules get theirs?

Milton, your calm and reserved opinions certainly would serve you well in a leadership role.
