Registration Day Success!

The official registration days for Portola Middle School are over, and most students have completed the registration process.  They have their schedules, ID badges and lanyards, PE clothes, and the set of books they keep at home to facilitate homework.  If your student's schedule is not exactly as it should be, please contact the office in person or at 524-0405.  Donna Timmons, school secretary, tells us that schedules get fine tuned and dialed in over the course of the days before school begins, and as necessary in the first week or two of school.  It is one way that the school is able to allow flexibility and accommodate each student's needs.  If your student is not registered, it's not too late.  Please call the office at 524-0405 to schedule an appointment for registration.  All registration forms can be found at http://portolanews.com/2013/08/05/need-registration-forms/.

The PTSA was on hand during registration days, including Spanish-speaking PTSA executive board members, to help parents and family members register for the PTSA for the 2013-14 school year.  About 90 new members joined during registration days, and 40 people volunteered for jobs.  This is almost the same number of people who joined the PTSA in all of last year, already signed up before the year has begun!!  To join the PTSA go to http://portolanews.com/2013/08/05/need-registration-forms/ and click on the 9th form down, "PTSAFillable".  Print and return to the school with $15 per membership.  To sign up for a volunteer position with the PTSA, please go to http://portolanews.com/open-ptsa-jobs/.  To make a direct appeal donation, please click on the "Donate Now" button on the right side of any page at the PortolaNews.com site.

What's next?  There is a Garden Work Party Saturday, August 17th 2-5pm on the Portola campus.  No green thumb required!  There are a few tasks needed to spruce up our temporary campus for the start of this new year.  After that, a Back-to-School Picnic at Cerrito Vista Park is in the planning stages.  Details on the date and time will be released very soon, so look for that opportunity to get to know Portola families!
