In an effort to reduce the amount of waste generated at the event, the City is asking attendees to bring their own water or beverage to their worksite and to consider walking, biking, or carpooling to the lunch.

The City of El Cerrito welcomes volunteers to help tidy parks, pick up litter to help reduce the amount of trash that ends up in our creeks, waterways and the Bay, and remove broom, an invasive and fire-prone plant, from the Hillside Natural Area and along Moeser Lane.

Like previous years, the City expects hundreds of volunteers of all ages to participate.

Individuals and groups should register online or by email to participate in a work party.

Registration is available online at http://www.el-cerrito.org/esd/earthday.html or by email to earthday@el-cerrito.ca.us.

On-the-day registration is also available on the morning of the event at the El Cerrito Community Center.

Following the work parties, the City is hosting a free lunch at the El Cerrito Community Center from 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. for all work party volunteers and their families.

At the lunch, a plant/seed/seedling giveaway will provide local gardeners with new growing options, local Latin jazz band, “Survival Groove” will perform and the City of El Cerrito Arts and Culture Commission is sponsoring a hands-on "creative re-use" art activity during lunchtime.

At the lunch, volunteers can pick up a free copy of the 2013 Chinook book full of valuable local coupons courtesy of El Cerrito Natural Grocery Company.

The City of El Cerrito’s 2013 Earth Day celebration is supported by donations from local businesses including El Cerrito Natural Grocery Company, Fairmount Electric, The Glen Price Group, Jenny K, Trader Joe’s, Pasta Pomadoro, Lucky, Bushwacker Brush Removal Service, Seidell Enterprises Inc., Edward M Matsuishi DDS/Children’s Dentistry, as well as generous individual donors.
