Preparation For Life Speaker Series - Raising Confident Girls with Peggy Orenstein

-Raising Confident Girls with Peggy Orenstein-
The pink and pretty "girlie-girl" culture encourages girls from infancy onward to believe that how they look matters more than who they are.  It also shapes how boys view girls, potentially affecting their future relationships.

Peggy Orenstein discusses the trajectory of girl culture from toddler to tween and argues persuasively that, with awareness and recognition, parent s and advocates can effectively counterbalance those influences.

Peggy Orenstein is the author of The New York Times best-seller Cinderella Ate My Daughter: Dispatches from the Front Lines of the New Girlie Girl Culture.  She has been a keynote speaker at numerous colleges and conferences and has been featured on, among other programs, Good Morning America, The Today Show, CBC's As It Happens, and NPR's Fresh Air and Morning Edition.
