ECCT Monday Hike:Park Hills Fountain, Shasta & Park Hills Road

Want to exercise your GPS device by putting on some significant altitude loss and gain? Want to experience Berkeley's restored system of historic pathways? Here is your chance to do so. Meet at Park HIlls fountain at Shasta Road, just east of Grizzly Peak, across from the fire station. We will chat with Charlie Bowen, the head of Berkeley Path Wanderers and the person most responsible for rebuilding Berkeley's pathways. Then we will go down 1000 stairs and a few streets to Codornices Park for lunch (and bathroom break). After lunch, we will return 1000 steps up different pathways to the fountain. We'll learn about the creeks, geology, and ecology of the Berkeley Hills and a bit about the eccentrics that live there. While we will only be walking 2 miles, it will feel like the usual 6 miles. This hike is not for the faint of heart or faint of knee, but many of the paths are incredibly beautiful and shouldn't be missed. Bob Flasher will be our tour guide.
