Where are you going to school? Berkeley City College and Merritt College.

What are you studying for? I’m doing my prerequisites to get into nursing school. Today I’m studying physiology and how the brain works. I'm pretty fried.

How are you enjoying this weather? Today we were heading out to study. I live (in El Cerrito) about two blocks away from here. I decided to take my bike. Halfway through it started raining and I got drenched.

What brought you to El Cerrito? My girlfriend found a post-doc here at Lawrence Berkeley lab. I thought it would be a good change from Orange County.

What do you feel the difference is between the two places? The big difference is really good accessibility to public transportation. Here I take the bus.

What do you do for fun? I like to surf. I’ve gone to Ocean Beach. It’s a challenging place.

I’m sure the surfing is really different. It is, because the beaches there are really accessible and you feel safe. Here at Ocean Beach it’s almost like a wasteland, but it is good to have that wilderness feel to it. (But) I’m screwed if I get hurt here.

And it’s cold compared to Southern California isn’t it? Yeah, I’ve actually doubled up on my wet suit.
